For hunting purposes, the 180 grainer is more heavily constructed and not as apt to expand properly at 30-30 velocities as is the 170 grainer, which was specifically designed for 30-30 class cartridges.

Hi
I wonder if someone has tried this combination? i find the 180gr Rn has nearly same length as a170 grains and have much less bearing suface! which means less pressure! if you have a data please share it with me.
regards
danny

Danny, I have not ried the 180 in a .30/30, but see no reason why not! I have shot the Speer .311" 180 RN in my CZ 7.62X39mm, and I get both great accuracy and 2100 FPS @ 10' using 28.5 grains of H335.....
