Be prepared to snicker at my ignorance. I keep reading about annealing cases or case necks. When does this need to be done (how do you know) and how do you do it? (I know it has something to do with strengthening metal with heat.)

It's actually to soften the metal so it will be pliable so as not to " Work harden " !.
