From the NRA reloading book there is a subsonic load for a 45 grain lead bullet - 1 g hercules bullseye, cci 350 primer.

There is no cci 350 rifle primer. Would the cci large rifle 250 magnum primer be suitable?

I'm relatively new to reloading ....do pistol primers fit in rifle cases?

Pistol primers work just fine,, it just needs to be a large pistol primer if used in a 22.250...

I actually do a lot of down loading of ammo.. and testing of it... just sort of became a hobby...

But you need to learn a few things about it to avoid some nasty problems....

first of all, after you put a load of powder in a case, Seat a bullet in the case before moving on to the next case.... this eliminates accidently doing a double charge...which can be a problem, as you get close to the maximum pressure curve for that powder....

Secondly, the exact opposite of the advise of working up a load with the slower burning powders....in downloads, start at close to the middle of the available data, and work DOWN...

the reason is, all of a sudden, you can find your load goes POP when you pull the trigger and now you have a bullet stuck in your barrel... which can be a pain to get out, or spendy taking it to a gunsmith to get out...

with the really fast powders like Bullseye, you don't need mag primers...

the load you mentioned, I'd have to work down to that one myself.... one grain of powder in a case... I'd be worried about that stuck bullet in the barrel problem.....

Makes me wonder if there is enough pressure generated to have to resize the case each time...

good luck with it tho...

Thanks for the information. I was worried myself about just 1 g. Now that you mention it I'll be sure to add more powder and work down.
Tomorrow I'll pick up the primers. I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks again

Went with 1.7 g hercules bullseye 55 gr gas checked flat nose cast bullet, cci 350 large pistol primer. Savage 22-250 heavy barrel. Quiet. Breaks out the back of a 2x4 but doesn't go through at 25 feet. 25 feet is my alien species predator extermination setup.

I was fiddling with a 223 handirifle I got for the kids and came up with a very quiet load. This is based on article I read for the 22 hornet.

I used std primer, ~1/2gr unique and a 22 pellet loaded base first. I used stamp sized piece of tp wadded up to keep the powder over the primer. The report is little more than a clack from the 20" barrel, and it'll go through 1/4" ply at 20 feet. Offhand groups were pretty good as well. I'd imagine it would handle most small game with headshots.
