Getting ready to start working up a load for my new rifle and was wondering if anyone has a powder suggestion for a 180 gn bullet? The bullet will probably be either a Hornady Interbond or a Nosler Accubond. I have some IMR 4350 & 7828 that I am going to try, but any info would be helpful, thanks in advance!!!!

Can't beat the Accuracy and Vel. of Imr 7828 with any where from 82-86grs to start in most all 300Wbys with a 180gr Pill.

I would suggest you work with two powders initially. IMR 7828 and H 4831SC. Good luck.

IMR 7828 should give you top velocity; you should be able to get 3200+ f.p.s. using it with 180 grain bullets, and 3000+ with it using 200 grain ones. RL 22 and IMR or Hodgdon 4831 will not give quite as high velocity at safe pressures -- maybe about 100 to 150 fps less than what you will get with IMR 7828 -- but may give somewhat better accuracy. (Remember that IMR and Hodgdon 4831 are not the same -- the IMR is a bit faster burning -- so data for the Hodgdon 4831 should NOT be used with IMR 4831.)



IMR 4350 will work, but in my experience it will not give you the velocities of the the other powders I've mentioned.



Your rifle may, of course, vary.

Good powder recommendations here, I'll also add RL25. It gets me 3100 fps with 200 gr bullets, the only powder that will do so. - Dan

I have loaded for a number of 300 Weatherby rifles and have tried IMR 4350, H 4350, IMR 4831, H 4831, RL 22, IMR 7828, RL 25, H1000, etc.

However, I keep coming back to either H 4831 or RL 22 when loading 180 grain bullets. The speeds are always reasonable and the accuracy is usually best with one of those two powders.

I have to agree though, that for 200 grain bullets, RL 25 is the powder of choice.

Just what I have experienced, I know a lot of guys prefer IMR 7828 in the 300 Weatherby.

I try to duplicate Weatherby loadings and with the use of an old Weatherby Guide and Norma MRP ( the same as RL-22 I am told) I can replicate factory weatherby loadings ONLY WITH Hornady or Nosler Partitons as those were the only two bullets available in 1985 when the last guide was published. I've done some experimenting also with IMR-7828 and that seems like it's a winner. The load I use is 80.1gr of MRP. jorge

Imr 7828 is a great place to start.

My favorite 300 Weatherby load is a 180 failsafe and RL-25, it's a couple grains back of normal max but gives me just under 3200 and 3/4 MOA in my Sako 75. I may start trying Retumbo, especially in Heavier bullets.

Has anyone used Ramshot? I have one to troubleshoot for a friend and was just curious of the results. The only Ramshot I have used is Exterminator in my 223, so my experience is limited but pleasant. Thanks, Jeff

Thank you everyone for the input. It seems as though IMR7828 is a great place to start, especially since I have a can of powder that I couldn't work up any good loads for my brother's 300 win with 165's. Once I get this ball rolling I will try to give you all an update with speeds and accuracy. This may take some time as you all know. The rifle shot just over an inch with factory Remington coreloct's @ 100yds, so I would catagorize it as a shooter. I should be able to get it down to at least 3/4 with out much trouble with my handloads. I want to get some loaded before it gets too warm here for load workup. I like to work up loads as close to hunting conditions as possible, so I don't want to be at the range in 95 degree heat when I hunt in 15 degree or less cold. I will try to post my initial workup findings. Thank you all once again!!!!!

I used 7828 in mine and velocity and accuracy were good. 2 inches at 200 yards and 3150 fps

I've had good luck with IMR7828, RL22, H4831sc and H1000. If I had to pick a favorite it would be 7828. It just seems perfectly suited for the .300 Wby and 180gr. bullets.
