Gunsmith should have my new 6.5 WSM completed next week. Rem 700 left hand short-action, Shilen barrel, Bansner High Tech stock. Anyone else have a 6.5 WSM and loading data they would care to share?

What bullet are you going to shoot? My dad has one and we've got some velocity and pressure data from the Oehler 43 for Berger and Sierra 140's with H1000 and RL25.

I'm going to use Nosler 125gr and 140gr partitions. I do have H1000 on the shelf.

Here's some testing we did with a 140 Berger and 123 Lapua Scenar seated to the lands, this is built on a long action so the OAL is long, you should reduce the loads and work up from 5 or 6 grains below would be my guess. These are max loads in this gun. Should get you started though.

H1000-140 63.0gr 3250 fps at 65k psi - 140 Sierra MK
RL25-140 68.0gr 3250 fps at 66k psi - 140 Berger VLD
RL25-123 68.5gr 3450 fps at 66k psi - 123 Lapua Scenar

Oal was 3.1" with the Berger.

2.99" with the Sierra.

3.080" with the Lapua.

All shoot extemely well, way better than moa with every group shot and most under .4-5 moa.

His is a 30" Pacnor so velocity may be a little higher on his if yours is shorter. Good luck.

I don't know anything about a 6.5 WSM, other than I might like one.

If you can find data for the 7mm WSM, that may provide some guidance BUT you will use somewhat less powder in a 6.5. And probably need powders like 4831 and slower. You might be able to get a feel for it by looking at the relationship between loads for 7MM rem mag and .264 win mag. Be cautious, but it should be a dandy.

Loading data for a 270wsm would be much closer than the 7wsm, not only because the cases are different length at the shoulder, the bore size is more closely matched. Dropping a couple grains fron a 270wsm's starting load for a starting load in the 6.5wsm would give you a start.

Keep in mind, with the same charge weight the smaller bore cartridge will produce higher pressure with the same bullet weight, so you need to drop the charge weight accordingly. Compare the other WSM's with equal bullet weights, you'll see what I mean. Good luck. [Smile]

Mines a lefty as well on a Savage action. My max's are 61.0 of H1000, 65.5 Retumbo, and 60.5 of RL-25. These are all 140's, either Sierras, Partitions, or Hornady. Please post your results for my comparison. Mine has a 26" Lilja and fps is about 3150 fps.

Thanks for all the comments and assistance. I'd planned on using below-starting loads for the .270 WSM as the initial point.
