i have a savage vss, shots like a dream, but am getting a lilja barrel with a 1-8 twist put on it to stabilize some heavier bullets,(65-80gr) and am looking for some reloading data for the new twist rate.

Forget about the twist....get loading data for the bullet weight you wish to use. Typically available from the makers of the bullet! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have one, and to tell you the truth.. you could test a zillion powder combos like I did, or use a charge of 33.5 grains of IMR 4064 with an 80 grain bullet, 34 grains with a 75 grain bullet, and 34.5 grains with a 68, 69 or 70 grain bullet... The same charge weights hold true for RL 15, or IMR 4895, but you will find out that IMR 4064 will prove to be the most accurate...

thanks for some #'s On the reloading data. I'll give them a try and let you know how it turns out. I just heard my barrel won't be there until the end of Nov. So until then i'll just be firing away with some lighter ammo till then. that rifle is just fun to shoot. you can check it out on the savage arms website, VSS 22-250 exactly the same as their picture.

I have a 1-10" twist, 3 groove, PacNor supermatch barrel chambered in 22.250 (tight neck) sitting in my storage right now just waiting to get installed. It's going to be for 50-68 grain bullets. Jon, it added a lot of versatility to a 22.250 by being able to run the 68 to 80 grain bullets... however as a point of thought, unless you like playing with "what ifs" like I do... If you wanted to just be practical... a fast twist 22.250, will not do anything for you that a 243 in a varmint barrel won't do better...It soups up the 22.250 for some longer range, and harder hits... but so will a 243... I love mine, I love having something different, but for practicality, a fast twist 22.250 is just trying to re invent the wheel... when you look at a 243... same thing with a fast twist 220 Swift... I have both the regular twist 22.250s, the fast twist, and then 243s and 6mm Rems...and several of those with fast twists... just my take on it.. cheers seafire Life Member: The American Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Jan 20, 2009..
