Here's a box I found locally. The stencil on it says it all. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

FWIW the inside of the box has a copper liner and is in pristine condition. The outside is as you see. There was a little powder still in the box but maybe 1/4 pound at the most. Oh...BTW it'snot for sale. This is the only one of these I've ever seen in my life......I suppose some of you have seen a few. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have a cardboard powder barrel , but never seen a wood one . My guess WW2 vintage by the date ,PACKED 1944. Lets see 150 lb x 7000 gr = 1,050,000 grains/ 44 gr per load = 23,863.63 rounds per . That would be enough for a few days for me . LOL Johnch NRA life Delta Pheasants Forever DU Hunt as if your life depended on your results

neat find. We used to get 4985 cased like that about 50 years ago. Haven't seen anything like that since.

Interesting stuff, that early 4895. Burning rates were radically different, based on the lot number,n some being as fast as 4198 and some as slow as 4320. That lot number, IIRC, was one of the more popular ones, similar to, but slightly slower than IMR-3031. The NRA used to sell that powder through thr DCM, and each batch you bought came with it's own loading sheet. I did some of my first loading of the 30-06 with that surplus powder. Paul B.
