Getting ready to begin reloading for a 300 Weatherby and was wanting to get 2 good powders to start with. More concerned with accuracy instead of velocity. Didn't know if there was a go to powder when beginning. Thanks in advance.

b-h-b, I've never bothered with anything except H-4831 or H-4831sc in the 300 Witherbee, with a good 165 or 180 grain bullet I've never experienced anything but outstanding accuracy with 3-shot groups as 5-shot groups take too long due to the significant barrel heating and resulting scope mirage IMO. H-1000 has alway intriged me but it's hit or miss here as far as a steady logistics chain goes. 165 or 180's grainers (180's have always delivered the best terminal performance). Surpisingly, a R-E-A-L-L-Y stiff load of AA-4450 & Barnes 130 gr. TTSx's resulted in one-ragged-hole groups and velocity that is spectacular. Although I did kill a coupla Red Deer with them (Death Ray results) they're a niche bullet weight for this cartidge IMO. If I was gonna have to make a pick based on availability here's a short list of good ones I'd select to start (and stay) with ..... H-4831 (or sc) H-1000 RL-22 IMR-7828 or AA-3100 Have fun with your selection, the anticipation is half the trip ..... Cheers, Number 10

If you want to limit yourself to just two powders just go with IMR7828SSC and Reloader 22 and don't look back. "Diligentia - Vis - Celeritas" NRA Benefactor Member Member DRSS

I just picked up a 300 weatherby as a back-up before an elk hunting trip last year. Using what I had on hand I got tremendous results from a maximum load of IMR 4350. I haven't chrony'd the load yet but it is grouping very well. Last 4 shots could be covered with a quarter at 100 yards. It may be a little old fashioned but it appears to be good enough to take elk even the way out there bulls.

H-1000. It has shown me less shot to shot variation and better extended range accuracy than any other powder I've tried.

Weatherby is some of the best factory ammunition made. They always crimp. I would suggest you use bullets with a cannelure and use a factory crimp die form Lee. H-4831 and Reloder 22 are naturals. IMR 7828 can be included as well with 180 and 200 grain bullets. Research Ken Water's work on the 300 Weatherby. It is honest and will work. Google it.
