I have an RCBS motorized case trimmer. It gets a lot of us, several thousand cases per year. Not sure what broke, but it failed completely. Sent it to RCBS and asked them to fix it and let me know the charges. They fixed it including an entire new motor and other parts and returned, no charge.

Thought that deserved mention.

Yup!! Top of the line company. I've bubba'd up several things before and they've always come thru. I like 'em a lot.

Yep, I have sent a lot of RCBS equipment back for service, from presses to dies to bullet sizers. Always quick, no-BS service...

The problem is that I have had to send so much of their stuff back due to poor build quality. Warped dies, bent press, leaking sizer, etc. I eventually gave up and went to Redding and Lyman for my reloading needs. Zero problems so far (ten years).

TX N; My sentiments exactly.

RCBS dies are now the only ones I won't buy though I consider but rarely buy anything else from them. I have a lot of the green stuff on my benches but most of it was purchased a very long time ago.

My experience of their CS is not so stellar either.

Sometimes they are very good, other times they want to check the product first to see if can be repaired. Only problem with that is I am DownUnder and return postage often exceeds the value of the item.

That is quite apart from waitng on hold for 40 or 50 minutes on an International call.

I have had none of these problems with any of the other major companies. Even Lee hasn't let me down like RCBS. Some of their stuff might be a bit rough and need a minor fiddle to get right but I haven't had crap get through QC from anyone but RCBS.

I broke my scale beam by droping a box of bullets on it. They fell off the top shevle right on the beam.

Called them up told them I would pay to have it fixed. Got a conformation number off to Ohaus it went got it back in a couple of weeks no charge.

Great service.

I broke my 10-10 scales. the beam broke at the pivot. I called them, said I would pay for the repair because it was my fault. they sent me a new set of scales no charge. That is some great customer service.

I don't want to labor the point but the different responses from P dog and ty falcon prove my assertion.

One got a new set of scales and the other had to send his in.

Both are happy but they live CONUS and didn't get asked to send a broken or faulty new product back to the USA by International post on their dime.

Now while it is nice to have a life time NO FAULT guarantee to repair or replace a broken product, which does not differentiate between bad luck or because the owner operator is a klutz, someone has to pay for that.

That of course is the consumer and unless the company providing that service is charging more the only way to be price competitive is to supply an inferior product than they otherwise could.

I like my old RCBS dies, won't buy a new one though.

I've broken a few RCBS items. EVERYTIME I've need to have something repair or replaced it has been MY FAULT!!!!! Roll Eyes Heck I bought a used garage sale damaged Rockchucker and even with me telling them that is what it was they gave me free parts. I have never had an issue with RCBS failing or being wrong from the factory. But hey I've only owned 50+ RCBS dies along with presses, scales, powder throwers and have only been using them for 40yrs. But I just must be lucky.

I sure can't see complaining because two scales each damaged BY THE USER (not equipment failure) were handled a different way. Some things are cheaper to repair others cheaper to replace. In either case I would be tickled to have something selling for over $150 was replaced or prepaired free of charge to me.

You miss the point.

Both posters broke a beam on their scales, bad luck or klutzy, doesn't matter but neither was due to faulty manufacturing process or materials.

RCBS handled the claim differently for each of them to their satisfaction. However there was no consistency in the process and others including me have had less stellar perforance by the CS department.

You had them repair a damaged press you bought and you are happy.

However someone has to pay for this and that means consumers. The only way for RCBS to provide this service is to charge much more upfront for their product than they could otherwise or to provide an inferior product than they could for the price or both of these.

To give an example, RCBS sell an Advanced powder trickler and press stand for around $50.00. It's a piece of Chinese made crap that if it were a toy of the same materials and construction being sold in a discount store it would sell for around $10.00.

However because RCBS warrants it forever not just against manufacturing defects but against some bubba wrecking it, then if you bought it you paid 4 to 5 times what it was really worth.

I've been reloading for the same 40 years and I have a lot of RCBS equipment too. 4 Uniflows, a couple of presses, scales and 20 or so RCBS die sets. But the old shiny metal ones with precise threads and polished interiors, a pleasure to use.

Not todays black oxided ones with shitty and or incomplete threads and poor internal finish.

I purchased 4 of the RCBS powder lock out dies in recent years. One was a dud from new, poor internal polishing left burrs that locked it up tight. Yes, RCBS replaced it but not happily.

All I am trying to say is that RCBS would be better off producing a better quality product again, made solely in the USA, selling it for around the same price or a bit more and only warranting it against manufacturing or materials defects.

Happens quite often as I get older.

I've used my equipment for 40 years. I haven't bought any NEW stuff other than dies. For what I need RCBS works great. I will simply continue to use it until I no longer am able.

As to the two ways of handling the break of the scale heck might have been two different reps or same rep before and after lunch. Wink Or do we know both were 10-10s

Yes RCBS has good customer service. Yes someone pays for that. I would rather it be that way than trying to deal with some of the other stuff on the market that cost more and repairs take forever.

As I said I have old 30-40 yr old equipment. It is still running great. If all the new is crap then I have no first hand experience. I've had no issues with the dies I've bought the last few years.

Same goes for me. No problems ever with quality or customer service. Thought it was because I knew most of the people that worked there but found out they treat everybody that way. Of course that was several years ago. old
