Good morning, I am getting my hands on light contour 8mm-06 built on M98 action. I am wondering if I could use 8mm Mauser dies that I already have, rather than buying new set of 8mm-06 dies. I understand 30-06 case will not go completely in 8 mm full size 8mm die, but will this be an issue since both cartridges have identical neck and shoulder? Also can I use 8mm Mauser seater?

No, they do not have the same neck and shoulder OD; won't work. Shoulder diameter on the 06 is bigger by about .010.
Seater might work depending on how sloppy the ID is.
Get new dies.

You could probably neck size or partially neck size, or have Dennis OLson Plains Mt. rechamber your 8mm dies to 8mm-06 (an option) but that would cost $35.00 and a set of 8mm-06 dies wourldn't run much more than that..I have 8x57, 8mm-06 and 8mm-06 Ackley dies. its best to have dies and caliber match as sooner or later you will HAVE to full length resize..

E-bay often has a set of 8mm-06 dies listed and they can usually be had pretty cheap. If you want new CH4D has dies at a reasonable price. As others have mentioned you will be much happier with a proper set of dies

Will not go completely: The difference between the two case bodies is .127" when measured from the datum to the bolt face.

It is possible to neck the 30/06 case up to 8MM. I use forming dies.

Yes whats why 8-06 are a common wildcat. You can do it with a tapered expander rod.

Do you have forming dies to a 8-06? It shouldn`t be needed.

You may want to bush a little Graphite in the neck to help the expander slide thru easier.

Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

All my 8mm/06 cases are 30-06 cases ran thru a std 8mm-06 die loaded up and hunted with, or just shot up in my 8mm-06 Ackely rifle for a final fireforming...

You can also lower the expander ball in a set of 8x57 dies and run the neck of the 06 case over that and back, load it up and fireform it to 8mm-06 and even 8mm-06 Ackley. for a one shot case forming to either. A set of 8mm-06 dies or 8mm-06 Ackley whichever the case may be is a must...
