Hello
I've been wanting to post the question, 'what is this stuff good for?' for a while.
It has been tried in a number of applications with exceptionally mediocre results.. until now.

I read somewhere that IMR 4007 nicely fills a gap in the 30-06 with 180gr bullets between the kinda too fast 4064's and the kinda too slow 4350's.
So I assembled three rounds with the IMR recommended load of 53.0grs IMR 4007 and Hornady 180gr BTSP bullets, Win case and primer, and shot them out of my Rugar M-77 stainless at a 200 yard target.

If this load continues to group like this, it will be quite useful.

I'm still wondering if anyone else has any success stories with IMR 4007?

I have used it in a 338-06 and a 300 SAUM with very good results. It is also working well in a 7-08 with 140 gr. bullets.

It has proven exceptional for me in a .244 varminter using 70-grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. I like its short-cut grain which meters accurately through a powder measure.

But where did you get the idea that 4350 is too slow for the '06 with 180 grain bullets? It is just about ideal with this weight and is only a bit on the slow side when you drop to 150 grain bullets. In fact, I get 2780 chronographed fps with a 180 grain bullet out of a 24" .30-06 using surplus 4831, which is significantly slower than IMR-4350.

I would think that IMR-4007 would be just about ideal with 150 grain bullets in the '06.

RDub, I've had pretty good luck with IMR-4007ssc in couple calibers. I'm using it in a 243AI with 87gr bullets and I've shot it in a custom 300WSM and 30-06. I got little better than book velocity in the standard calibers and accuracy was good.

I kept it as one of my back up loads and I should use it more has a good load density.

That was an opinion of the author of some post I read somewhere.. Not mine. Although my '06 does not care for the 4350's much, other rifles curtainly do.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. Gives me some more ideas to try it in..

The fine cut 4007 powder is good in a number of calibres. I have found it to be very good in my 9.3x64 with 250 and 286 gr bullets. Also very good in the 35 Whelan and 9.3x62 with heavier bullets. I would also like to try it in the 8x57 with heavier bullets. the 308 with 180 gr bullets. Likely very good in the 338-06 also.

It works great in the 7-08 as well, velocity runs over 3000 fps and accuracy...

I guess you gotta see this to believe it..

My wife's Mod 7 does not like it much..

With that same bullet and Rx15 it shoots ragged holes..
