I just picked up a mint smooth-bolt 280 Remington MTN Rifle. Looking for 150-162gr loads.

T/C Nut, I love my .280 Mountain Rifle. I use a couple different IMR powders, right now I'm working through a can of 4350. I have used 150gr Remington Corelok's till I ran out then I found some 154gr Hornady Interloc's on sale. Same performance - whatever they hit expires quickly. No need for premium bullets on an average whitetail. I also started loading 175gr Interloc's for bear. Loaded to a similar pressure as the 154grs they shoot about 1 inch lower at 100 yards than the 154gr load. Makes an easy transition from bear season to dear season here in Pennsylvania. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Life's too short to carry a gun that you hate!

I've had great success in those weight ranges with H4831 & RL22. Free float the skinny little barrel and get a good trigger adjustment and it's amazing how accurate that rifle is. Political correctness offends me.

My best loads with the 280 have been with IMR4350 and Nosler bullets. Currently shooting 140gr Accubonds with a max load of 4350. Took two of my largest whitetails this last season with this load. Both deer fell in their tracks. Texas Verminator Verminator Predator Calls Pro Staff

Lucky you, I wish I could find a good M700 mtn rifle on the cheap. I have a custom M70 in 280 that I pretty much feed 160gr bullets. Best powder I have found to date for accuracy & vel. is IMR7828 or 7828ssc. Work upto 57gr under any 160gr bullet for 2800fps+ from my 23" PacNor. H4831 & IMR4831 are exc. for accuracy as well, but I can get 75fps+ more vel. from the 7828. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
