Please chime in with your thoughts on the best software out there. I probably don't even know all of the available products, so tell me what you feel is best and why.

I've never used handloading software before, and was seriously considering Quickload, but looked at others as well. Thanks in advance.

For load predicting software programs I like these three.

If you want to get deep in the tangled jungle of interior ballistics and load development go with QuickLoad...it gives you more information that the average reloader needs but it will definitely learn you up quicktime. Lots of fancy line charts and other bells and whistles but be prepared to spend some time learning HOW to handle this narly beast.

Load from a disk will give all the information most reloaders need without blowing your mind. Cost half what QL costs and is fairly simple to work.

The online Powley computer is simple, quick and easy and will get you a good starting load without much fuss and is great for checking to see if something is amiss with the other programs, but is only good for IMR powders for the most part...AND...it's free.

"BEST" is a relative term...what's best for one isn't worth spit to another so check them all out.

There are several others around...goto StevesPages...he has a very nice listing, including URLs, of most of them plus a blurb or two about the programs.

Luck

I have nothing to add to Foobars comments. He pretty much covered it.

I had a free copy of Loadtech when I allowed them to include a couple of my wildcats. I'm sure glad I didn't pay for it. I would not recommend it. Too many error and very limited flexability.

I'm still learning with quickload but have been very pleased.

As usual just my $.02

Thanks. I looked on stevespages.com and demo'd a couple, looks like Quickload is complicated but comprehensive. I probably will never scratch the surface of what it offers, but will go with it instead of a lesser program that always leaves me wanting just a bit more info.

You can really make QL as easy or complicated as you want. If you use STD case capacity, OAL Starting pressure and burn rate it is very simple and will give you answers close to normal load manuals. I've found with just a small amoutn of tweeking and using velocity from my loads I get get QL real darn close to actual results and those results carry to different bullets and to a slighly lesser extent different rifles.
