Hi guys, Newbee here. I would like to say hello and introduce myself. I am 52 and from southern NH where firearms are plentiful and the shooting areas are many. I have a small range in my back yard. I am shooting pistols 90% of my shooting time. The other 10% is trap and rifle. I served in the Marines air wing at Cherry Point NC from 75 to 77. I own a small transmission rebuilding business that is a one man shop at this time. I find reloading and Texas hold-en to be my other hobbies. Reloading is surely one completely separate hobby from shooting. I am very new to reloading but have the good fortune of having many experienced reloaders in my club to discuss technical matters with. I learn fast and can be very technical. Sometimes too technical. I own two presses. Hornady pro-jector and a turret. I have mastered the progressive and all the problems that plague the marginal machine. I pistol shoot 22, 38, 357, 40, 44 and 45. I have an AR15, M1A NM, M1 1942, numerous 22's and a couple of shotguns. I like Sig's and S&W. I treasure my 2 model 41's and my 28-3, 29-2. They are all tack drivers. I like tinkering with my firearms to improve them. I think nothing of tearing them apart. I am going through them one at a time until they are all as good as I can make them. I hope I didn't bore you. I apologize if I did. Now for my first question. I just purchased 4K 147 FMJBT 30 cals from gun broker. They are pulls. I am very pleased at the condition. I would rate them like new. I weighed each one and separated them into .1 grain +- lots. I ended up with 7 lots. A few of the bullets were 100 grains. I am looking for consistent loads. Did I overdo it? I plan on using WC846 for SHTF stockpiled 308. I will use 4895 for the accurate loads. How much will 2 grains of bullet weight change the impact point?

Probably not very much Unless you are at a match. I would load 3 each with the same powder charge & 3 of the 145's, 3 of 147's & 3 of 149's shoot em & see

Hey CPB, Semper Fi! and Welcome Aboard. I spent a bit of time in VMCJ-2 back in the old CORPS!!! Never apologize MARINE - it is a sign of weakness. (A slight skewing of the wording in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" staring John Wayne.) Hard to say. I'd suggest it depends on how far from the CenterLine of the Longitudional Axis the Weight Variance exists. Up close(100-300yds) it might not matter at all. Once you get out aways, every minor difference becomes compounded. It has been many years since I weight Sorted Bullets. That in no way means your efforts were wasted. It might make a difference depending on the specific Lot you have. Only way to know is to Shoot them. A lot of folks don't do near the Prep Work I do and they get along fine. But, I believe in the long term, the more Consistent each Component is, the better the Final Load will be. Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

I believe that group was part of HMS 32? Was it not? We were at the end of the flight line. When did you serve? Cliff,

Back in the old CORPS 67-71. Don't remember the HMS number. Had a Rabbit on the tail of the Phantoms(RF-4s), Intruders(EA-6s) and Super Willies(EF-10s). We had 36 planes in the Squadron when I got there. They phased out the 12 Super Willies in maybe `68-`69. They had a "Slide Chute" escapeway, windshield wipers and even a cigarette lighter. Occasionally you would hear a bunch of hollering and someone would accidentally slip down the Slide Chute onto the "soft" concrete. Lots of great Hunting on and around the Base. Best of luck with your Load

OORAH! Knew I liked this place. So what you are saying Hot Core is that when you went to get your 782 gear they issued you a spear and shield? There was a EA6B unit that wore the Playboy Bunny for quite a long time. Can't remember the Squadron designation though. 'I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisable, with liberty and justice for all.'

I worked in the avionics division testing and repairing black boxes and anti-smash lights. The F4's were gone. We had A4's, A6 intruders and Hawker Sidley Harriers. There were a few A6 trainers. One crashed that we lost 6 men on. Two of the 4 squadrons were Harriers. I never seen any game but there were plenty of birds for the planes to hit. I like the Carolinas and do miss that area. I don't remember any playboy bunnies. They must have moved to another base.

You youngsters, spears and shields were much later. And yes the Bunny was our insignia - VMC-J2. J1 was in Nam and J3 was at El Toro. The EA-6Bs arrived after I'd bailed out. They got there in the "New CORPS" era. It rides 4 comfortably and has the potential to Electronically Jam entire Nations. We had the old EA-6As. Two seater(sports model ) and was not as sophiscated as the Bs. Both are not much for looks on the ground, but they sure are beautiful in the air. I sure do miss getting to mess with them. Had some good Sandcrabs to Hunt with back then. Lots of them were around back then because of the Refurb Center. ----- This should help you all get it in perspective. Back then on Friday Nights you could go to Morehead City and head for Captain Bill's. At that time the Catch-of-the-Day, along with all the fries, slaw, hushpuppies and tea you wanted was - $1. Sanitary was going strong, but we saved it for special occasions. ----- A buddy told me recently the entire highway from Havelock to New Bern is now completely developed. Used to be pretty much wide open. The Vanceboro Police Station was slightly larger than a Phone Booth. You could drive across the road cutting through the back side of LeJeune and easily see 5000 Deer on a moon lit night. Probably still can if they will let you on the road. Used to be some excellent Pawn Shops outside the Main Gate that had all kinds of firearms. You could actually get some good deals and they were happy to Trade with you. Don't miss the Sand Fleas.
