Case Trimmer Recommendation

I need a case trimmer for my 375 H&H,
45-110, 416 Rigby and 470 NE.
I currently use a Gracey for the smaller stuff. The Gracey is a great trimmer, but I cannot use it for the big cases. I also have a very old RCBS collet style that to my knowledge, I can't find collets and pilots for the big cases. Currently I use a Lee for the 375.

I would like to find a trimmer, preferably powered, that can handle the large cases.

Thanks,

For a hunting rifle application, it is simply not possible to beat the LEE case trimmer for simplicity, ease of use, accuricy, and its practicly idiot-proof and is the cheapest trimmer around. I use it for my .338wm, 7mm STW, 6.5 X 55, and 300wm, and cant be happier.

Thanks for the replies.

I chose the Forster Classic 50 because they advertised pilots and collets for nearly all the big bore cases.

I vote for the Lee, as long as there is a shell holder they already have.

Somebody should tell them that all that old Big Bores have a revival and they should add some new shell holders ...

I think I will buy ( if possible ) for every caliber I ever use: Lee trimmer, Lee Factory crimp die, Lee shell holder for Auto prime.

Good shooting! H

As for the Lee trimmer, it is easy to use but its minor shortfall is that you are stuck with a fixed length.

The Lee factory crimp die is great.

I used a Lee autoprime for about 20 years.
It works ok but then I found that the 416 Rigby case won't fit in it. Why they sell a shellholder for it is beyond me. I called Lee and they told me to use a dremel and open up the body. I bought an RCBS (uses the
same shellholder as your press) instead and I believe it is superior to the LEE.

rcasto,

Glad the RCBS worked for you. Thanks for the info. I almost thought I'd have to buy one. I did open up my Lee Autoprime with a Dremel tool and the thing still barely worked, even though I think Lee was correct to recommend that modification. The Rigby case kept popping out of the Lee shellholder, which is apparently the same one they use for .45-70, which has a somewhat larger case head. Made me afraid to even think of a Sinclair as a solution, since they use the Lee Autoprime shellholders. What I did, figuring I had the RCBS as a backup, was buy an OLD-style Lee priming tool, and had our local gunsmith open up the existing shellholder (don't even know what it was) to .416 Rigby dimensions. Not cheap, even though he undercharged me, but now I have a really compact priming tool that I like, that really fits the .416. For normal people, I guess the RCBS is the way to go.

Hello

I have been using a South Bend lathe for case trimming, not for any special reason but because I had it already. A Unimat works almost as well...
