Hi all, getting ready for some load development on a varmint weight gun/barrel in 243...Formulas and tables aside, what in your practical experience would be the ideal bullet weight for a 1:10 twist barrel for a 243 Win? Heaviest bullet that's been very accurate for you? Thanks... The two most abundant elements in the universe are Hydrogen and Stupidity

I have 9.5:1 and have very find results with 85 grain Noslers. TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

The 1-10 twist is my favorite for the 243. There is no ideal bullet weight or length except to say that almost all of them are "ideal" so twisted. I am shooting the 58 gr Hornady VMax as I can see the bullets hit due to the low recoil. If they or the 55's had not shot so well I would have used a 70 gr with a plastic tip. I like the lighter bullets so as to reduce the chance of ricohets. Otherwise I would leave it home and use the Swift. Join the NRA

For velocities under 2800 FPS, bullets between 0.851" and 0.940". For velocities over 2800 FPS, bullets over 1.021". I use the Sierra 85 grain HPBT bullet in all my .243 Winchesters and 6mm Remingtons.
