I have found that 56 grains of IMR 4350 is very accurate in just about any 30.06 behind a 180 grain bullet. I know what the reloading books say about velocity, but can someone put this through a reloading program to estimate velocity out of a 24" barrel. Or, if someone has chrono'd this load I'd be curious as to the results. When I was looking at my manuals last night, velocity varied from 2650 to 2750+, all out of 24" tubes. Thanks.

I have loaded for the 30-06 for many years. not that load, but the load i use is with a 150 gr bullet. I was loading for 3 different rifels with the same load, all with 22" tube, it went from 2810 fps. to 2925 fps. nothing changed but the gun.. all guns are different. the closest one to the book was a vanguard.. the slowest was a browning a-bolt

I load 57.5 grains IMR-4350 with 180 grain bullets and 22" barrel.....it clocks right at 2,800 FPS

Kraky....interesting.....I'd bet money against 2,800 but the 56 K isn't far from my experience.....2,750 tops I'd say.

Maybe I need to get me the "quickload"...where is it available?

Quickload has been updated many times and is getting pretty accurate. Anytime it predicts within 50 fps of an actual reading that's pretty darn good....usually better than most reloading books. I've got my money's worth out of it over the years. Heres where to get it....

One last comment...the bullet was never specified. A simple bullet like a hornady 180 spitzer would probably make lower pressure and velocity....a long bearing bullet like an accubond could easily add another 5k pressure and 50 fps. Case capacity and powder lots would also have a HUGE input on results. Put 3 pressure makers together and you'd have a problem.....put three reducers together and you'd have a milder load. MIx em and you wind up in the middle. I guess we all understand these ideas if we've been at it a while.

Thanks Kraky....I've been fairly impressed with the data folks have reported from quickload....

and I agree....it seems to be as good as most books!
