Hey Guys,

I am getting a crushed neck on my rifle shells fairly often using my Hornady LOCK-N-LOAD POWDER MEASURE with the Case activated powder drop.

It only does it with every like 4th shell when using IMR 4064 powder since it must be sticking on trying "cut" the cylinder style powder. It cycles fine with flake powder.

I used graphite lubricant on it and it helped some but any suggestions on what to do or try. Are there better powders that are flakes? I don't see where they manufacturer states what style of powder it is made of.

I had the same problem with mine. I contacted Hornady and they told me to switch powders, I don't really know of a better solution.

Now that is what I call Customer Service !!

Thanks, that is probably right I will need to find another powder. But when you go look at other powders they don't list what style the powder is like flake or extruded and so on. Now some do but not all of them. Oh well live and learn.

accurate 4064 is a ball powder, as are most of their line.
the wins748,760 and 780 are too.
i don't use too many ball powders as my dillon drops stick powder fine.

I crush 223 cases with the Hornady and imr4198. Really long sticks and thin brass doesn't work well with this measure. I put imr4895 into 308s with no problem, the brass can stand the extra pressure.

I've seen a website somewhere that shows the "shape" (I know there's a better word) of a ton of powders, anyone know it off the top of their head?

I'm switching to a win powder the next time I do 223s.

Hodgdon, Alliant and Ramshot web site explain the geometery of their various powders. IMR and Winchesters powders are handled by Hodgdon and are covered there.

Yes, these were 243 rounds so maybe a larger caliber would be ok. But really, it should not have this problem. They need to look at fixing this issue.
