H110/W296 is a good choice for top end loads. For midrange plinkers, Unique is old school but still works great, especially w/ lead bullets. WSF is about the same burn rate & meters a bit better in a measure. Universal is another that will work in all your calibers.

In my .357 & .41 mags:

< 950fps: HP-38 (aka, win 231). Best metering powder I've found. Great for milder loads, target, and plinking loads.

In my .41 mag, 7.0 gr. HP38 / 210gr. SWC gives me 950fps.

> 950fps: 2400. No need for mag primers and delivers predictable pressures over a much broader range than the H110. H110 has a farily narrow operating range - either load it hot or don't load it at all. 2400 gives me 95% of the velocity max that H110 offers but still gives me more flexibility to load it down.

Also in my .41 mag, 16.0gr. of 2400 / 210 SWC gives me 1050fps. And that's a lighter end load for 2400. 19.0gr. would probably give me upwards of 1250fps...

A pound of 2400 gives me 350 reloads.

A pound of HP38 gives me...1000+ reloads.

And I have an 8 pound keg of HP38...
*****honorable mentions********

Unique: I love it, but damned if I can't get it to meter right out of my Horn. Pro-Jector progressive press / powder drop. If I could only get it to meter right...

Clays & Bullseye: Loved the accuracy, but again the flake powder just doesn't meter right. And I don't care what anyone says: they are both dirty bastards.

TiteGroup: Dirty, but meters well. I'd call it a good alternative to HP38.

Regards,

Robert

My hand cannon prefers IMR 4227 as it has consistently shot better groups with it than other

powders .

I believe you're looking for a medium burn-rate powder. Any of the following will give the same results: Unique, Universal, Power Pistol.

4227 is very accurate in the big bores, but does not give highest vel. I use it for moderate 300gr loads in my 45colt.
