If you bump that W296 up to about 23 grains you will see a big difference!! |

| My goal was an easilly manageable working load around 1050-1100 fps. I don't know what the loads were doing, but they felt stout enough. I can handle more but would like to work with possible flinching problems. Looking back at the loads, I think I did 17.0 2400 also. Would like to reshoot some, but the group HS-7 was much better than the others.
Several people speak of 1" groups at 25 yards, but I have never done it. This HS-7 group was pretty good at about 1.125" for 5 without shooting the 6th. The Hodgdon book only shows about 35 fps increase from 20.5 grains to 22.7 or so. I'll go up with W296 and see what happens. |

Ditto, I used 22.5 grains WW-296 with cast 300 grainers. I also used 24.5 grains with 250 grain LSWC's. |

| quote: I seated a 310 cast Leadhead LFN over 15 grains of HS-7 and a standard primer. My chrony is broke....Anyone shed any light as to guesstimated fps or if it over loaded????
I've got chrono tapes of 14.1g of HS-7 pushing a 255g Oregon Trail Keith style. Each string was 30 shots. These were all shot from a S&W M25-5 6". FC Primers Low 1009 High 1079 Avg 1039 s18 WW Primers Low 1056 High 1120 Avg 1086 s15 RP Primers Low 1013 High 1072 Avg 1049 s15 The load data was derived from Lyman #47.
With another grain of HS7 and a 310g bullet - I would guess low nine hundreds from a 7.5" bbl.
My preferred hot load for a Blackhawk is 24g to 25g H4227 and a 240g JHC, 250g XTP or a 260g FN GC I bought a few years back. |

| I have had great luck with HS-7. I liike it for mid level loads. A new powder to play with is Titegroup for those style loads. HS-7 was used by Shooting Time article when they experimented with the Barnes muzzleloading bullet in the 45 colt before Barnes came out with the handgun bullet. If my memory serves me right he took a deer at 185 yard with a contender 45 colt with HS-7
