Any load information would be appreciated. I got info form h&h year and half ago but now that I am ready to load some ammo it is AWOL. It had a german powder listed but thought someone would know an American equilant. Now can't find the info. Help--a buff is preparing to meet me and my 400.

I'm shooting 73.0 grains of Rel-15 with the Woodleigh 400 gr bullet. It gets right at 2350 from my 26" barrel.

triggertate--where can I find that powder. I am brand new to reloading and don't even know that Rel-15. Thought I could just google it but that didn't work.

There is a link to the Alliant powders website, Reloader 15 should be available anywhere where a good selection of powders are sold.
Good luck with your rifle.

Rel-15 is "Reloader 15" made by Alliant Powder (which used to be Hercules) 1-800-276-9337 according to the info I still have. Web@ www.alliantpowder.com

Its a medium fast powder rifle powder. Please work up from about 70-71 grains; my load is not absolute max but it is approaching the top of acceptable pressures in my rifle. Best of luck!

Tigger,

where did you get the dies and brass?
There is a gaping hole in my gunrack between the 375H&H and the 416 Rigby that cries out for a 400H&H

Should I be the first to jump in & tell you that the 400 H&H is the ballistic equivalent to your 416 Rigby & you'd be wasting you time?
Naaaah, if thats what blows your skirt up, go for it. I like the look of the 400, its slinky & svelte & I bet it feeds like a greased weasel. Pictures will of course be obligatory, close up cartridge porn would be appreciated too. Wink

If you do it, you'll love it! My dies are CH4D but I think several makers have them now. Brass came from Quality Cartridge and it is nice stuff. Before that I ran some 416 Rem and 375 brass through the die with good results. Lots of bullets to pick from now.

Here you go, Steve!

The rifle is a Remington Model 30 Express:

And the round is sleek, indeed. Here it is between a 375 and a 450 Ackley:

Less body taper than the 375 and the neck is roughly the diameter of the 375 at the shoulder. To the eye it looks like it would hold less powder but looks are deceiving. Very powerful round if you want to load it up to 2400 fps but it "does it all" at 2150 fps and it is really easy to shoot well at that velocity.

Thanks TT, nice pics, nice ammo porn. Big Grin Big Grin. Theres not a lot to choose between the 400 H&H & the 400/375 wildcat that was discussed on AR not so long ago, I think I like the 400 as well, your 30 rem makes me wonder what my P14 rem action could be used for, Hmmmm....! Looking some time back at these on ammo-one. I got to thinking that the 400 is much more a necked up 300 H&H than ever it was a necked up 375 H&H.

as this shows.
Thanks again
Steve
