Hello, This is to ask your advice about loads for .30-06 with Barnes bullets. While I have great results in terms of accuracy and instant effect on the animal with the 7 mm Rem. Mag., loaded with TSX, TTSX and LRX, I cannot succeed in duplicating the accuracy with my .30-06. The rifle, a CZ with Mannlicher stock is very accurate with Sierra SPBT 150-165 grs (3 shots in half an inch at 110 yards), but with Barnes bullets I never get groups tighter than 2 inches. My loads were: -TSX 130 grs + 62,0 grs of Norma 204 + CCI Bench Rest Large Rifle. Measured MV 2958 fps -TTSX 150 grs + 57,0 grs of Norma 204 + CCI Bench Rest Large Rifle. Measured MV 2743 fps What do you suggest? Would the use of a Magnum primer, with a reduced load, improve the accuracy?

Try Varget at between 51.5 and 53.5 with the Barnes 130. Seating depth will likely be a search until you find accuracy proposition.

My best accuracy load comes from the Barnes manual #4. 55.5 grains H4350, Fed 210 Match primers, Norma cases and a 168 TTSX. H4350 performed better than IMR 4350 and IMR 4064 in my load development. I haven't tried Norma 204. Barnes web site will communicate a few things which may be of interest to you. The 168 grain TTSX has a different ogive than the 165 grain and it is designed specifically for use in calibers like the 30-06. Lastly, the optimum seating depth will most likely be 50 thousandths from the lands of your rifle. Barnes has determined most rifles will shoot best at that seating depth. That has been my experience in 4 of 5 338 Win Mags and 3 of 3 30-06s. Good shooting!

I found working up good, accurate loads was a quicker process with Barnes TTSX bullets, compared to other brands, in the several rifles I regularly shoot. At various times other shooters have voiced similar comments on AR. And I certainly found TTSX seating depth is critical to achieving best accuracy. All my loads are 50 thou ( 1.27 mm ) off the lands, or further if magazine length restricts COAL. My go to 30.06 loads are below; Blaser R93, 650 mm barrel, 1:11 twist Case-Norma, Primer-Federal 210 Match, Powder-Norma URP, Charge-57.20 gns, Projectile-Barnes TTSX 165 gn, COAL-84.70 mm ( 3.33 inch ), Av. MV-2950 fps Tikka T3 Lite, 570 mm barrel, 1:11 twist Case-Norma, Primer-Federal Magnum 215, Powder-Norma URP, Charge-56.50 gns, Projectile-Barnes TTSX 165 gn, COAL-85.50 mm ( 3.36 inch ), Av. MV-2850 fps Tikka T3 Lite, 570 mm barrel, 1:11 twist Case-Norma, Primer-CCI200, Powder-IMR 4064, Charge-57.00 gns, Projectile-Barnes TTSX 130 gn, COAL- 85.50 mm ( 3.36 inch ), Av. MV-3270 fps Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Many thanks for the answers. Has anybody experience with Norma 204? Besides being available where I live, it great for my 7x64. Thanks again

read up on this reloading technique and use your 204 powder http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/ Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I tried Norma 204 and a 185gr Lapua mega in 3006 the rifle didn`t like it ,had a abnormal recoil(i dont remember the load). Changed to Norma MRP for the same bullet it worked well.
