I'll have the Speer #14 in hand on Monday once UPS drops it off. If no one chimes in by than, I will. Is the Hornady manual you have the 8th or the newest 9th edition? Kevin

My response would be not to bother with the Speer #14 manual just for .458 Lott data, UNLESS you intend to use Speer bullets. Your post made me curious so I pulled out the Speer #14 and the new Hornady #9 and I was blown away by the differences. With 350 grain bullets the charges listed are so different that I kept looking to make sure I was on .48 Lott data in both books. For instance with a 350 grain bullet Hornady shows a maximum load of H322 as being 79.8 grains for 2600 fps. In the Speer manual with a 350 grain bullet they show a maximum load of H322 as being 88 grains giving a speed of 2749 fps. That is a huge difference!!! Who's right? Probably both sets of data are probably right for the equipment tested. A look at the 500 grain loads is just as disturbing. And Speer repeatedly states in this manual that their TBBC and TBSS bullets do not "track" with data for conventional bullets. They recommend using TBBC and TBSS data ONLY for TBBC and TBSS bullets. On the other hand, I routinely buy every reloading manual I can get my hands on. I find it best to try to use the manual printed by the bullet manufacturer if possble. R Flowers

Big stick I have the 7th edition of the hornady manual. Flowers thanks for the input...I shoot a lot of hornady and barnes bullets mostly in my 458 Lott. I may buy the speer 14 anyway......I have speers #7 thru #11. So maybe it's time for the #14. Hell what's or more manual in my many reloading manual book case. Thanks guys Jason

And the different bullets. That could be more significant than the equipment used in the testing. LWD

I have the latest Hornady, Nosler, Barnes and Speer manuals. For the 458 Lott, the Hornady manual is all you need but I like more. All you really need is a safe starting load. You should be able to figure out the maximum load for your gun easily enough.
