Nice shot, nice Coyote...nice and dead

Do you get many drift problems with the 58grn bullet.

Regards.

Dave.

TRex300.

l'm using a Remington 700bdl in 243 and can say that both the 75 and 87 grn v-max will do the job you want (real fox poison)

Here goes.

My current load.

Norma brass, with the flash hole opened to 2mm
87 grn v-max, non molly coated
Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primers
35 1/2 grns of H4895

l seated to bullets at about .5mm off the rifling which gives me a total length of 67mm end to end, l don't have the OAL for the ogave with me.

lf you hit the bonework then they can really make a mess with an opposite side blowout the result, it can really knock the shit out of them . But here's the beauty of the beast, if you want to use them on Bambi either hit them in the head or just behind the shoulder and they will act like a normal soft point and just pop right through with little meat damage but still knock them over on the spot.

Hope this is of some help to you, good hunting.

Dave.

Dave,

Thanks for the compliment. Those coyotes have ruined woodchuck hunting here. The coyote is an abomination.

The drift at 300 yds with a 10 mph cross wind is 9 inches for the 58 gr at 3750 fps and 7 inches for the 95 gr VMax from my 260 Rem at 3250 fps. I use them all for the fun of it but the overriding concern is richocets. Where the backstop is not perfect I have to pass up the shot and I have a lot of confidence in the light bullet as it's so similar to what I am familar with in the high velocity 224's.

One could shoot 70 gr bullets in the 6mm's and be just fine on richocets. If my rifle did not shoot the light ones right that's what I would use. I doubt that I could see the bullets effect then as I have no special aptitude at that. The COL on the 58's is 2.6" which seems short but that's what's suggested for the 55's also.

The wind was screaming at 15-22 mph from 2 o'clock. I am lucky to have hit it at all. As you can see from the picture above this particular bullet did not fail!

For varmints I am using the 58 gr VMax in the 243. The 55 gr Nosler shoots just as well also. The reason for using this light bullet is that I can see them hit. This adds to the fun.

The rifle is a Kimber Montana and it smacks coyotes good. The ballistic coeficient of the little VMax is .250 and you should find it much better at long range than the 60 gr Sierra which is only a .182 bullet. You should be able to use the same loads as you do now also.

I am loading 44.5 grs of IMR 4064 for a 3750 MV from the 22" barrel. This load is a little on the light side so it would seem until it hits a coyote.

Here is a picture of a 291 yd shot. I was under the apple tree at the top of the page. I could see the coyote flip tail over head and just lay there dead.
