How in the hell do you pack the scale components back into the unit so you can get the cover to snap closed? I've got the beam in its spot on the base (weight set at 400 gr mark to fit into the hole). I've got the powder tray tucked in the slot in front of the beam. I've got the tray holder hanging from the hole in the top of the scale body by the magnetic damper. It looks like the hanging tray is too wide to allow the cover to snap on securely. Am I missing something here?

Rotate the point of the tray holder around to the wire. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

How easy is the 10-10 to use compared to the 5-10? I've been told the counterpoise system is a bit fiddly to use compared to the sliding weights on the 5-10? Regards, Peter

I have no issue with using the 10-10. I've used this one for 30+ years. As to storage the wire goes behind the bar and the point on the holder in front of the bar. I guess you can take them apart if you want to. Will the holder fit in front of the pan? Anyway this is how mine came out of the box and goes back in. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Pete you might be thinking of the 505. I have a 5-10 and it has the same rotating drum poise of the 1010. I am a little too shaky to like the 1010 type poise and bifocals also make it more difficult to read. It idoes work well and a young guy may get along well with it. I would prefer sliding poise over the rotating barrel.

Yes, it was the 5-0-5 I was thinking of.. That is what I currently use, but I find its easy for the counter weights to shift slightly so was wondering about the 10-10 or 5-10 if that comes with the plastic cover as well...

The 1010 or 510 does not drift or move. There is a nylon screw on these beams to lock the rotating drum. The drum stays where you put it once the nylon screw is locked. The same Ohaus beams are used on the AMT/Lyman Autoscales and I have a lot of experience with them.

It normally takes me half an hour or so to figure out how it packs away! Mine is an Ohaus 10.10.10 - metric! It is a bit fiddly but it's what I got and it's just fine. Regards 303Guy

That's how mine packs away as well. No need to take the holder apart. Have they changed the shape of the wire on newer ones? Mine must be nearly 20 years old. Reading the Instructions - a sure sign of weakness and uncertainty.

I think mine is a 10-05. It is very similar to the 10-10 except that it has only two poise and both use the V-shaped notches with a moveable weight. And I know within a year or two of how old it is because my buddy and I went halfers on it when we were in college -- so it's around 38 or 39 years old.
