I have a colleague now in Austin, Texas and was wondering if any of the Texans know of a store there that sells NorthFork bullets. If so I would like the name and address and telephone so that I can call them. I appreciate your help.

WInk,Mike gets on this forum now & then but I don't believe he sells through any stores, strictly direct order. The way to go is get an order placed in advance of your next trip over or a friends. beer

I was afraid of that. I always need hard to find bullets for some reason. Anybody in Austin that would carry Barnes bullets?

As far as I know the only way to get northfork bullets is to order online....directly

You might also just PM NFmike here as I believe that's the Northfork guy!

McBrides has reduced their reloading section to a cubby hole in the attic. They might or might not have a particular bullet, but they have definately downgraded their reloading section from years past.

Sportsmans Warehouse in Round Rock (an Austin suburb) carries Barnes bullets, and Cabelas is just a few miles south of the city in Buda. You should be able to get the telephone numbers of either store from their corporate websites.

There is a "boutique" sporting goods store in Bee Caves (which is simply northwest Austin-on-the-lake) at the intersection of Highway 71 and Bee Caves Road called "Sportsmans Finest". They might be a prospect.

Another possible source is Red's Outdoors (one location in Pflugerville and one in Oak Hill), but their reloading stock has been pretty thin the last few times I've stopped in.

Red's Outdoors in Pflugerville got rid of their reloading inventory- Sent it to Reds' in Oakhill. I think they did not compete price wise with Sportsman's Warehouse.

Sportsman's Finest has no reloading tools or components. They will also not talk to you if you do not appear willing to pay MSRP for everything. I only go in there because my dentist is next door.

There are a very few components at Tex Guns on Manchaca in south Austin but not worth your gas.
In general Sportman's Warehouse has the best selection and prices but that is not saying much in Austin. It is a sorry place to get components considering a population approaching 1 million.

Cabela's has quite a few Barnes bullets in stock. McBride's, as noted by Stonecreek, has all but abandoned carrying reloading components. Sportsman's Finest -- well, I was there once and won't return. The selection was scanty and the prices quite high. And I was not impressed by Sportsman's Warehouse. I know some claim it's the best thing going, but I beg to differ. They were the only place that had N160 powder a while back. I talked to them a day before driving up (about a 2-hr drive one way) and someone told me they'd hold 2 bottles for me. When I got there..no powder, and no one had a clue. I had a list of 7 or 8 other items I intended to get while there, but they only had a couple of the items, and they seemed overpriced. I left empty-handed and am not planning a return trip.

Why not just have the big brown toy delivery truck---i.e. UPS---bring them to your door?

Wink, if your colleauge were to give Mike a call & he had the bullets in stock, he may be able to overnight them to him/her in Austin.

An apt observation.

Wink,

I use and highly recommend North Fork. They are at least worth a try.

Mike Brady is a guy who wants to hear back from his customers on what they find as far as performance, accuracy, etc.

Great guy and will be more than happy to talk with you or supply you with no BS information. How many bulletsmiths do you actualy get to interact with?
I get my order in N. Carolina within an average of 2 days.

All the best,

Sam
