Got some of the new Barnes FN-style flat points solids. I was looking at them and then looked at my considerable pile of 9.3, .375 and .458 Barnes non-flatpoint monolithic solids and though " I wonder if....". Took a 9.3 solid, chucked it in my drill press. Put a file under it on the worktable and in about 30 seconds I had a lovely 9.3 Barnes flat point solid. By chucking them against the front collar and using a stop it is easy to duplicate the meplat on the factory .375 and 458's. Life is good
Just got back from the range this afternoon with my 9.3x62. Since there is no factory 9.3 flatnose to use as a pattern, I just used a profile that sort of looked like the 375's, fed ok with a dummy round. No difference between my homeboy flatpoints and the factory RN solids in my handloads. Haven't fooled around with the 375's or 458's yet but things look promising.
