Looking for experiences from those who have used this die. I assume no lube needed?? How much Bump do you get on the shoulder if you set the die to fully size the neck, or can you adjust that seperately? Thanks--Don

I haven't used the die, but apparently others haven't either. You've probably looked here, but just in case: www.forsterproducts.com/docs/bench-rest-bushing-bump.pdf It's not perfectly clear, but it looks like the shoulder height and bushing height are interdependent. .

Win 69, I did check out the Forster intel, I've got one of them in today, so I'll post some info eventually. I am curious especially about the real need for lube, the die instructions say lube the neck-outside-and the shoulder, which I have a fundamental issue against. I will try one without lube, and if I stick a case I'll deal with it..... Hope it is something worth trying, I think the fellow who posts here as Woods uses one on his 280 AI....

Nope, not me. For my 280AI I have the usual Lee Collet Neck Sizer, Redding Body Die, Redding Comp Seater and Lee Factory Crimp. One advantage of the 280AI is that all those are regular 280 dies except the Redding Body Die which they happened to have in stock. I'll be interested in your results with the Forster Bushing/Bump also. You're the first Fish, let us know how it works out. ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

Well guys, the first Forster Bushing Bump die I got in is for 308 Win. Maybe I just got lucky, but this thing works like a charm. I set it up straight by the directions, the only trouble I had is that one of the formula's for determining bushing size just didn't work at all for me, but no worries the other formula did work OK, and one of the three bushings that came with the die was an exact match for the formula. I sized sevral cases measuring each time, these were once fired cases, and I only sized ones where the Stoney Point shoulder measurement matched. In each case the shoulder moved back .0005 ( My caliper I have the headspace gage attached to is 1/2 10,000 capable, so it is either some amount of thousandths, or .0005 plus or minus) and the neck was sized perfectly. No lube needed and the cycling of the press was smooth as butter. Very concentric, extremely low runout. If this is indicative of how these babies work, I will be buying a bunch! As an aside, you can also set it up to partial neck size, it that is your desire, tried a couple just to see, worked great. I like it a lot!

Independent of shoulder height? .

Hey Fish, Being a stickler for details, I do believe you left a word out: ...the Stoney Point Thingy shoulder measurement matched(?????)... I'd also hasten to add you must have witnessed a miracle when it got a couple of measurements the same - even on the exact same Case. ----- I'd go into further detail - BUT - I spotted some ripe Tomatoes off in the distance which need my attention.

Yes! Originally posted by Hot Core: '...the Stoney Point Thingy shoulder measurement matched(?????)...' Of Course! 'I'd also hasten to add you must have witnessed a miracle when it got a couple of measurements the same - even on the exact same Case.' Where's Woods at to help on that one!

It is not common knowledge that Mother Theresa was a Reloader. "Rumor has it" that she became enshrined as a Saint because of a couple of Miracles she performed. Apparently she got the exact same Thingy reading on "one Case" - three times in a row - on two separate occasions. (aka: 6-readings the same) AMAZING!!!!! Of course it had to be verified and documented.

Hey HC, you're just in a good mood cause you still have tomatoes and you know mine are gone by now! Just remember though, you'll never see any like these or have plants 10' tall Hey Fish, does that die have an expander ball and did you use it. I know that the Redding bushing type dies do have expanders. Every post I've seen says to remove the expanders, but then are all the differences in neck thicnesses and runout all pushed to the inside of the neck? ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

Where are the Purple Streaked Tomatoes that are the size of Cantalopes? I think you had a flick of one setting atop an Entrance Post with a concrete pad. Did yours float off when Ike came to visit? That wind was tough on my vines. ----- I believe the first Frost is not far off. When it gets close, I'll pull the green ones and store them away to ripen in the garage. Had Ripe Tomatoes on New Years Day a couple of years ago. Is that an original Stoney Point Tomato Measurement Thingy???

Hey Woods, sorry I didn't catch your question earlier, had a tough fall and winter, and wasn't on the forums consistently. The answer is that yest the die has and expander in it, and I did try it both with and without. It did't give a lot of runout with it, so I left in the 308 die, I don't neck turn, byt that would let you if you want. No lube needed might be my favorite feature--unlike you, I have had bad luck with runout using the Lee collet sizer die.....this thing is great!
