Tried to PM Seafire after unsuccessful search for the above data so I am trying to get his attention this way.

Would appreciate anyone's experience with Blue Dot light loads in the above calibers. I have had great success with his BD loads in the .243 Win. for my kids. Thanks.

I don't know who this seafire character is, except that I have heard he carries a dubious reputation and really can't be trusted...

Range Report: Blue Dot & 300 Win Mag

Rifle Used: Browning A Bolt,

Barrel length: 26 inches

Capacity to Rim: 70 grains

Primer Used: CCI large Rifle
Case Used: Remington

Bullet: 150 grain Remington SP:

28 grains: 2383 fps
29 grains: 2392 fps
30 grains: 2441 fps

31 grains: 2487 fps
32 grains; 2526 fps
33 grains: 2560 fps
34 grains; 2634 fps
35 grains: 2688 fps

Several rounds had a stiff bolt lift at 35 grains. I would recommend to stop at 33 to 35 grains.
Bullet was seated to the cannelure.

Bullet: Remington 165 grain Corelokt SP

28 grains: 2221 fps
29 grains: 2236 fps
30 grains: 2331 fps

31 grains; 2350 fps
32 grains: 2383 fps
33 grains: 2412 fps
34 grains; 2486 fps
35 grains; 2530 fps

1. Even thought several rounds had a stiff bolt lift at 35 grains of Blue Dot with a 150 grain Rem SP, that was not experienced with a 165 grain Rem SP.
2. Bullets were seated to the cannelure.
Work up your loads for safety sakes. 33 to 34 grains would be recommended max.

Blue Dot Range Report: 270 Winchester

Rifle Used: Winchester Model 70/

Barrel Length: 24 inch

Case: Remington
Primers: CCI Large Rifle

110 grain Sierra SP:

20 grs: 2196 fps
21 grs: 2232 fps
22 grs: 2302 fps
23 grs: 2419 fps
24 grs: 2447 fps

24 grains Recommended as Maximum. This bullet does well on antelope sized deer.
Velocity starting in the 2200 fps range will allow a 200 yd load, considering the scope being set at 3.5 inches high at 100 yds. Recoil is of course reduced greatly.

130 grain Hornady SP/BT

20 grs: 2092 fps
21 grs: 2117 fps
22 grs: 2113 fps
23 grs: 2181 fps
24 grs: 2237 fps

24 grains is recommended as Maximum. Was looking for a load to start out at 30/30 velocities and 2250 fps range proved to be max. This load was also extremely accurate as was the one above. Once again a 3.5 inch high zero at 100 yds will put one dead on at 200 yds with the 24 grain load.

My favorite bullet to use in these reduced loads for deer, is the Nosler Ballistic Tip. The ballistic tip opens very well at velocities down to 1500 fps. IN 270 they are flatter shooting at lower velocities than one might think. Ballistic tips in the 130 grain size have penetrated 6 to 8 inches of wet wood at 2000 fps MV, in my testing.

Work up etc.. don't exceed.. use at your own risk...and all that lawyer stuff...
