Vacuum Packing?

I loaded a bunch of my favorite loads for several different rifles and calibers. My plan was to pack them 10 in a bag, vacuum pack them and bring them to the hunting shack just in case.
My 13 year old son asked me if it was a good idea to vacuum pack loaded rounds. I couldn't answer his question as I had never done this before. So, I'll ask you guys, Is there any reason that I should not vacuum pack my rounds for long time storage?

None.....but ammo has been stored for very long times without such packaging.....long like more than forty years!!!

I can´t see anything wrong with vacuum packing ammo.

There will be no ( few ) moisture in it to do harm, there won´t be an atmosphere too dry, to dry the powder.

And as long as the vacuum holds, there won´t get any water into the package ( = ammo ).

I don´t know if its worth the struggle, but it surely will improve, or better: PRESERVE, storage life, IMO.

Vacuum pack them, then put them in either a Pelican case or one of the military metal boxes, like the "30cal" "50cal", or if you have a lot of ammo the "20mm". Eeker Big Grin

You have the right idea... ie, you got to keep your "powder" dry. thumb

I have shot hundreds and hundreds of Turkisk 8mm military ammo loaded in the 1920's in my Mitchell Mauser....and guess what....not a single misfire or hangfire. Good ammo does not need a high level of protection from the elements...but if you have the time, why not. It sure won't hurt it.

It will work but a zip-lock bag works well too.
