Anybody have an idea what the minimum / maximum powder charge would be for a Warbird with a 150 grain jacketed lead bullet using Rel 22 or Rel 19? What sort of speed would one be looking at?

Gerard,

You might like to have a look at our data for the 30-404. It is a bit smaller than the Warbird, but you might consider using our maximum loads are your starting loads.

Gerard,
Check out Lazzeroni's website, and click on the reloading data link at the bottom of the page.

I believe it's around 3700fps from a 27"bbl. with RL-19 and a Nosler 150gr. BT.

Thanks Guys,
Great info. DB Bill, judging by the smile, you had a great time, what area did you visit on your hunt?

I hunted in Maetsi 6 which borders on the Zambezi River and also Botswana at the Caprivi Strip area. Tons of elephants, lots of big buffalo, lions all over the place, big sable, not a lot of kudu, and eventually a lot of leopard. My buff was just over 40" and we saw several after I shot mine that were noticably larger; my sable was just over 43" and we later saw two about the same size and a fellow from Texas, who came into the camp about half way thru my hunt shot one that was just over 45", we had a little trouble getting leopard on bait but on the 6th or 7th day after we began baiting we had 7 leopard on 6 baits (male and female on one together). Shot the leopard on the 3rd afternoon (no night shooting allowed) after being chased out of the blind the previous night by an elephant. We saw roan (protected), some really big eland which were not on quota, and a small pack of wild dogs twice. The area is also quite good for waterbuck but I didn't see anything bigger than one I had shot on an earlier trip. Bushbuck sign all along the river but no luck. The area also had a lot of big warthogs and zebra and giraffe were all over also. Saw a lot of hyaena sign but again no luck baiting. The impala were basically "bait" size but plentiful. My PH was Brian van Blerk ... a young (30+) and very passionate hunter and great companion in the field. If I wanted to hunt 4 of the Big 5 I couldn't imagine a better place.
