As most of you know the blame for the dying condors in So Cal has been blamed on lead bullets, so as of the end of this year they will no longer be legal for hunting.
When looking for unleaded options I first thought of Barnes and GS Customs. Are there any others? Has anyone tried to use bismuth cores? How about Hevi-Shot?

I've done ok with Barnes, but it will drive the cost through the roof with the boys. Big Game isn't so much a problem but yotes and ground squirrels eat up a lot of ammo.

Anyone know? Nate

Barnes also makes the Varmint Grenade which is a lead free varmint bullet in .204, .22 and .243 cals. Cost is about the same as other varmint bullets.

Sinterfire makes a sintered highly frangible bullet for .22 centerfires that blows the shit out of squirrels.

The Hevi-Shot guys have the tungsten core Dead Coyote bullets but they're pricey.

Hopefully we'll see lot's more options available in the near future.

Nosler has the new E-Tip. Only available in .30 caliber at the moment but I'm sure they will add more calibers as time goes by.

Lead was bad for ducks in wetlands in WA.

Now we have to hunt pheasants in the desert with steel shot.

Fear of lead in government spreads like a disease.

Thanks guys. I'd never heard of SinterFire, and had forgotten all about the E-tip. I've tried the 36gr .224 on squirrels and it is a great little bullet.

tnekkcc- I hear ya. This ban though is B.S. They have not restricted the bird hunting to lead free, yet I'd bet far more wounder birds get away and are eaten by the Condors than slugs in gut piles. Besides, Have you seen a slug stay in any of the little critters? I see most everything I've shot exit. Even with standard construction bullets. These idiots are passing stuff just to have their name on something and I'm sick of it.
