Have you finally got your 6mm back from the smith, and ready to shoot???

358: I have had good success on small whitetails (I would assume they would be similar in size to roe deer) with the 85 gr Partition and the 85gr Speer BT in a 6X47 (6mm-222Mag) which should be very similar to your 6X45. Good luck! Jim

Thanks!

I've used the 90 grain Sierra SSP pullet in my 6x47 with good results.

Best Regards,

The most efficient and accurate bullet I have found after shooting the 6mm-223 over the past 16 years is the Speer 80gr spitzer. I have taken many whitetail and turkey with this bullet and several of the deer were 225yd plus one shot kills.

I think anything over 80grs in the 6x45 may not give the expansion you will need. The 6x47 has that extra little umph to utilize the 85 & 90gr bullets, but IMO, the 80 speer will work very well.

Good Shooting,

HBL

I'd be interested in the velocities you chaps are getting with those bullets in your 6x45/47s!

In my 6mm-223:

H322 - 25.5grs. 2740fps

H335 - 29gr (a little hot) 2875 fps

AA2230 - 28grs - 2800+

using the Speer 80 grain spitzer.

At these velocities, a SSP bullet is not necessary and the Speer performs very well on Deer size game.

I've been loading 85-grain Nosler Partition bullets with about 25 grains of H335. It's probably more bullet than is necessary. I've also been fooling with 85 grain XLCs, which look interesting in a nickel-plated case. The barrel twist is 1:9.5 in case I get the itch to try something bigger.

Tried the 80 grs Hornady FMJ (not a roe - bullet)with 24 grs of N 130. Avr. vel at 2750 and avr. group size at approx. 0.7", best at 0.4" That`s at 100 m.

I feel the potential is even better...

Hello Peter

I don't know, have not chronographed the load. The book seems to indicate something around 2700 fps. I think of it as a 200-yard antelope gun, so the trajectory is not a critical issue.

I have shot a lot of deer and antelope and done some culling with my Sako Custom 6x45 that I built some years ago...My favorite load is the 75 gr. BarnesX and 27 gr. of H335 for about 2900 as I recall....It kills very well and I always get an exit hole of about 1"....The problem is that bullet has been discontinued, albiet I have a stash of them and you might find some around if your looking..I bought a couple of boxes in a pawn shop here while back...

I wouldn't hesitate to use the 70 gr. Nosler FB or Hornadys, but would slow them down to about 2900 also...I can't tell any difference in killing between 2900 and 3200 with the 6mm.....

I tried the 75 gr Barnes X in my 24V, the point of impact at 100 yards was so much different from the jacketed bullets that I abandoned them.

358...i use a hornady 80 grn spssp(spire point single shot pistol) in my 6 PPC. with 27.5 grn of Benchmark, my rifle gets this bullet going about 2900 fps. i decided on this bulllet because my hornady book says it's designed for slightly lower velocities than most other 6mm bullets in this weight. the book says 2100-3000fps i think. at this point how it will perform is just theory because i haven't shot anything with it [Big Grin] but hopefully i'll be able to do some real "research" soon. unfortunatly, i looked on the hornady web site and it looks like they don't make them anymore. but i think sierra makes a 80 grn single shot pistol bullet but don't know anything about that one. good luck with your rifle. i really want one of those 6x45's. cheers...bud
