I know about the bright ring aroung the case head area,...but quite a few cases,..which I purchased new and fired in tight chambers, with the buulet in the lands show what I call a bright area. Now,..it starts at the rim and goes up to past where I beleive the web is. I figured this was the strength of the web and the slight bulging of the case to fit the chamber, which yielded the slightly different coloration. I have not seen any pictures of "the bright ring" that let me know exactly what signs I should look for. I neck size mostly, and seat to the lands on fireforming to get my expansion from the neck,..but I am asking this just so that I can be sure of what I see in the future,..should this be an occurence I run across.

thanks for any pictures or links with pictures.

Besides seeing 'the' ring or feeling 'the' ring, you can usually see 'the' ring inside the case with the help of a bright light(sunlight or a small flashlight held next to your eyeball as you peer into the case). You probably will not be able to see much by looking directly straight down into the case. You'll have to cant the case a little to the side and roll it around to see the entire inner surface of the case. Best-o-Luck

Oh yea, In my experience, you will see the inside ringing or feel the inside ringing before you will see the bright ring on the outside of the case. The inside needs to be checked all the way around the interior of the case. Often the thinning area(ring) doesn't go completely around the case. Part of the interior can be obviously thinned while the rest of the case looks and feels normal.

I agree. A couple of those cases in that box seperated that day so i used a bent open paperclip to "feel" the inside of the case. The "ring" is VERY easy to feel.....
