I'm starting to fall in love with RL 15 & 19 because they dispense so well, no binding in my powder measure like I get with some of the IMR powders Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids"

RL-15 delivers excellent accuracy in several rifles I have, better than any other powder. Haven't tried any RL-22 yet, but have a pound and will try it in a newly acquired 25-06. It may be till spring before I get to shoot it as we have feet of snow, not inches.. Our rifle range doesn't get plowed, so I'll have to wait.

i almost always start load development using RL 15, 19, or 22. I also tried 25 for a while but haven't reached for it lately.

Spherical or ball powders meter even better.

Abob, While I use the RL rifle powders and in fact buy them in the 5 pound jugs I still weigh each charge after measuring it. I also still use IMR 4064, 3031 etc. Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says. When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like! Do that with your optics.

If you are falling in love with Alliant RL-15 stay away from Vihtavuori, you'll bust an artery. If the enemy is in range, so are you. - Infantry manual

What's so special about Vihtavuori that it costs so much more Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids"

I shoot several pounds of Allient powders each year. RL-15 in .416 Rem and Rigby. RL-19 in .340 Wby and others. RL-22 in .300 Winny, .340 Wby, .358 STA, .270 WSM, .338 Lapua. RL-25 in .257 Wby, .270 WSM, 7mm STW. I have used them from Alaska to Africa at all temperature ranges with excellent results. Good shooting. phurley

I have more Re19, 22, and 25, than all other powders combined last time I checked. I reserve an entire shelf (of good size) just for my alliant powders. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

I don't pay much more for a pound of N-135 than I do for a pound of H335. I think a lot of poeple get the idea that Vihtavuori powder is twice the price because they are looking at the price of a two pound bottle. If the enemy is in range, so are you. - Infantry manual

I love VV powders but they are very expensive when compared to "domestic". From PowderValley: VV150-1# = $22.75 RL15-1# = $16.80 That's 35% more for an equiv. powder. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I use a lot of aliant powders. RL-15 in .308 and 35 whelen, 19 in 30,06 7mm mag 7mm mauser, and .338 win mag. 22 in 7 mag a few others I can't think of at the moment. I use a lot of IMR Hogden And winchester powder too. Ramshot a VV not as much. But Ramshot magnum is great in my .257 weatherby. ...tj3006 freedom1st

I try to limit myself to Hodgdon powders.....mostly to standardize on containers and number of powders I have on hand......but it sure is hard to not have RL-15 and RL-22 on hand as well as a few of the shotgun powders. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." if you load for the 22-250 there is nothing like RL 15, it pushes 50-55 grn bullets faster than anything I have ever tried, with good accuracy too. I get a good 75 fps more speed than h380 with no pressure signs, and tons more temp stability. in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

Got this from Alliant in case you were interested: "RL 7, 10x, 15, 19, 22 and 25 are made for us in Sweden. RL 17 is made in Switzerland. All of our other powders, Bullseye, Red Dot, Promo, e3, Clay Dot, American Select, Green Dot, Unique, Herco, Power Pistol, Blue Dot, Steel and 2400 are made here in VA. We also make lots of other powders here in VA that are sold exclusively to the ammunition manufacturers." Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids"

Hello, My most used powders are R15, R19 and R22. R15 in my .375 with 235, 250, 260 and 270 grs. bullets. R19 with 300 grs bullets. I use either R19 or R22 in my two 7x57 with 160/175 grs. bullets.

Ok…. Alliant powders are good: I keep Unique, 2400 and R15. I’m getting away from Vihta Vuori because they are more money never the less they are good powders also. “VV is not twice the money just 40% more” And I like Hogdons too “Praise the Lord" Vg

Not sure about the ownership and how it may have changed in the last few years, but the actual manufacturer is (was) Bofors, which manufactured both the powders sold as "Norma" and "Alliant" (formerly Hercules).

Since norma and alliant have the same parent company is RL22 and MRP the same powder, just different containers? I've heared this before somewhere but does anyone here know for sure? Steve

Yentna River, based on your screen name I'm guessing you've been Alaska, did you get a moose on the Yentna? Why don't you ask Alliant, their customer service is very good at answering emails, you can find it on their website Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids"

I used MRP for years then couldn't get it. First bottle of RL-22 I tried was several grains hotter.( I heard early lotts were a little hot) The last two bottles have loaded gr for gr with my MRP velocity and accuracy. I would not simply try a max MRP load using rl22. But would bet it will be darn close after you work up to it. I thought I had heard that MRP was held to a closer std. But would not bet money on my memory. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I have only a small amount of experience with RL powders. How do they hold out in extreme temp changes? I have had great luck with some of the Hodgdon powders here in the Desert South West being stable from the 20's to the 110's
|
One of Us |
haven't experienced any problems here in AK but I don't use a crony to check velocities, and it doesn’t get that hot, and when its real cold, I’m usually indoors Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids"

Abob, I use "Yentna River" as my screen name because thats where my cabin is. Unfortunately the moose population is so low in the area, 16B, that the season has been closed for several years now. F&G is trying predetor control measures on the bears and wolves in the area and I've seen more moose in the last two years than I have in the previous five. Maybe its working. Some of the alliant powders I have used. RL7 - 45-70, 50 Beowolf RL15- 8x57, 358W, 35 Brown Whelen, 375H&H RL19- 30-06, 35 Brown Whelen, 375WBY RL22- 30-06, 375WBY Metering qualities are a big plus to me and velocity is usually near the highest using alliant powders. At least in my rifles. Steve

Fred--I was at the local gunshop this morning---- There must be some kind of shipping added here or something. I'm getting 135 for 39.50 per 2 pound bottle and RL 15 is on the same shelf at 20.95 for a one pounder. So, I was wrong--the Vihtavuori is actually cheaper that way. If you can find one pounders of 135 it's 23.95. If you can store an 8 # you can really save. If the enemy is in range, so are you. - Infantry manual
