None of the many manuals that I have list any recomendations for WW748 in the 270 Win. It would seem that the cartridge is over-bore enough that it needs a slower burning powder. There are loads for H380 and if you feel like extrpolating loads that are not necommended you might use the starting loads for H380 as an median load for WW748 but even that could be dangerous.
H380 and WW748 are loaded similarly in the 3006 (with some notable exceptions). Even though the cartridges are similar the difference in bore is a big factor when you are using a powder designed for the 223 and 308 classes of cartridges. I would say that it would be a lot safer to just get a powder that is recommended and leave it at that.

W-748 is not a suitable powder for the .270 Winchester, regardless of the bullet weight or type.

IMR 3031 is faster than W 748
and W 748 is faster than IMR 4895, H 4895 RL 12 etc.

It seems to me that working up a load with IMR 3031 data, you should be safe. Can't attest to accuracy.

Although Steve Riccardelli does not recommend it ( and have never questioned his judgement, as we all should owe Steve a great debt of gratitude for his site and all the work he does to maintain it), I have used W 748 in both the 6.5 x 55, 6.5 x 57 and 7 x 57.

But saying it can't be done peaked my interest. Granted I did not find any load data for it in my reload manuals. Hodgdons BC 2 was the next powder below it for relative burn rate in the Lee Manual.

If you try it let us know the results. If you don't like to experiment, keep checking out the reloading site. I will do some testing for my own interests, and display the results.

I like W 748 as a powder, it has performed well for me in a variety of cartridges.

If Steve reads this, please understand I do that with all due respects to you Steve.

cheers and good shooting

The "Loadtech" computer program does not list Win748 as a suitable powder in the .270 Win with 150 grain bullets..

Reloading Manual Substitutions
From Gunsnammo 6-97

In a Nutshell, you have a powder but it isn't listed in the reloading manuals.
Using the Powder Burning Rate Chart, the way it works is thus...
Find the powder you want to use on the chart, Now, try to find the powders for which you have data for. You can use the data for one of the listed powders thats slightly above, faster than, your preferred but, unlisted powder. If you can find a powder that is 5-6 lines above your powder you can use that data.
DON'T USE SHOTGUN OR PISTOL POWDER
Example; Using a 270win.
Looking in Hornadys manual for 150gr bullets, we want to use Reloder 19 but its not listed.
But, if you look at the Burn Rate Chart you see that IMR 4350 is 5 lines ABOVE (Faster than) RL19. The table (Hornady Manual) lists IMR 4350 starting loads at 47.3grains.
You can use this data for your RL19.
To pursue this a bit further, Hodgdons #26 lists a starting load of 52gr for RL19 with a maximum of 55gr. for 150gr bullets. The Alliants 1995 version shows a max charge of 56.5gr with RL19 which puts there starting load right around 48-50gr.. Both books show a max charge slightly higher than the load shown in Hornady manual for IMR 4350. This Sub. would be on the safe side.
DON'T EVER SUBSTITUTE A FASTER POWDER FOR A SLOWER POWDERS DATA.
You will find diffrences in ALL the manuals, but if you do a little study, start low, look for pressure signs and be damn careful, It works and you'll be OK.
I've used this quite abit on the odd calibers I have with no problems.

Just remember, BE DAMN CAREFUL

Well thanks for everybodys advise. I think we buy some Win. 760 just to be safe. Again thanks and safe trails, Buria.

If you're going to buy powder anyway, it's hard to beat H4831 for the 270.

760 works very well for 130gr bullets, I haven't tried it with 150's
