Can I use 7x64 brass for a 280AI? I have not been happy with the 280 remington brass I have been using. I can't seem to find any dimensions for the 7x64, and '06 brass seems like it will come up a little short. Any help out there?

Carnivore,

Here are the measurements for these:

7x64

Length - 2.520
Bolt fact to shoulder - 2.028
Bolt face to neck - 2.180
Diameter at bottom of shoulder - 0.425

280 AI

Length - 2.525
Bolt face to shoulder - 2.090
Bolt face to neck - 2.175
Diameter at bottom of shoulder - 0.450

7x64 measurements are from the Vihtavuori book, and the 280 AI are from the Nosler.

Go for the Norma .280 cases, they are loved by many .280AI shooters include Jon R. Sundra in his own 7mmJRS.

Carnivore,
I just got a bagfull of 7x64. If you want to try some, give me a call. It will cost you a cold beer at the watering hole of your choice. Cobalt

Carnivore measure the 7 x 64 at the base and rim think it's smaller by little , but I need to adjust the extractor on my 7 x 64 Mauser M98 because don't have enough tension

Saludos

Carnivore I would not recommend using 7x64 cases for the 280 AI. The base of the 7x64 case is smaller that the 280 case and will result in excessive stretching and the fireformed cases not being concentric.I agree with several other that Norma brass is very good. Old Western Scrounger, Graf's,Midway and several others should have Norma brass. Out of curiosity exactly what is the problem you are having with the Reminton brass??
