I have a Rem 40X in 6mm Remington. Does anyone have a super accurate load using either Hornady 75 gr HP or Sierra 70 gr HP. I already have accurate loads for this gun but I am looking for a more consistent powder combination that will stand up load after load.

IMR 4064, 43.5 to 44.4 grains with a Hornady 75 grain Hollow Point. Work up to this load, DO NOT USE Magnum Primers in this load.

Mine has a 1 in 8 twist, on a stainless 24 inch PacNor Barrel, mounted on a Remington 700 ADL Long Action.

My velocity on my chronograph exceeds 3600 fps with this load. In my rifle it is a one hole shooter at 100 yds, If I do my part.

For target work I use the 115 grain Berger with a Load of 46 grains of RL 19, Large Rifle Primer. It yields a velocity of 3250. I use this in 600 yd competition.

Work up to these loads. I use Winchester Brass for these.
My rifle has a heavy sporter barrel, so recoil is not that heavy at all. It weights about 10 pounds.

Good luck.

My 40X likes the 75 V-Max with a max load of IMR 4831, and speed is as advertised by the two previous threads. Accuracy is roughly .3 MOA and this load is remarkably flat ad "wind" resistant! The 90 Berger BT was the most accurate bullet in this Barrel and .2 MOA was a consistant factor. I have now rebarreled to a Hart 28" tube and shoot the 105/107 class of bullets a bit further away on occasion.

I use 39.5grs. of H4895 with a 75gr. Sierra HP,(.40' off the lands) Rem. or 210M primers, 39grs. seemed to be more accurate with the Hornady 75gr., the Hornady likes it closer to the lands, my Rem. shot this load the best with once fired brass, but I did get a .320" group with new brass, best group with the Sierras was .217"(Always 5 shots), best with Hor. was .322", will shoot in the 3s and 4s with no problem, 9oz Jewell trigger, HS stock, Burris 6x-24x Sig. I also did try some 95VLDs, loaded up with 39grs. 760, 210M primers, Rem. brass, bullet was touching the lands as per instructions from Walt, this load was a solid mid 3s at 100yds., but is meant for 500yds. and further

I think I can help. I have a custom built rifle on a Remington 700 action chambered for the 6mm Remington. It wears a Shilen barrel, is sitting in a McMillan stock and has a Jewell trigger, etc. etc.

By far the most accurate load I have tried in this gun is as follows: Winchester case/Fed 210M/ 48 grains H 4350/ Sierra 70 grain HPBT. Velocity is about 3550 and the groups are always down close to 0.25 inches at 100 yards if I do my part.

Another outstanding load in this rifle (and one that is more consistant on varmints) is the same Winchester case and Fed210M primer, but using 47.5 grains of IMR 4831 behind the 80 grain Sierra Blitz bullet. This load shoots darned good groups also, but is a better for varmints in that it is more consistant in terminal ballistics.

Hope this is of some help, R F

Was out on the range this morning testing a load, that turned out very well also.

38 grains of IMR 3031, CCi Large Rifle primer, Winchester Brass. 20/1000ths off of the lands.

Was very accurate out of a 1 in 8 twist rifle. and the velocity on the chronograph was 3370fps.

Our range has a cement milk jug hanging out at 500 meters, and the load managed to hit that 3 times for 4 tries, with a scope being on 5 power. ( 4.5 x 14 Simmons). Can verify flat shooting to that range.

In my Remington 700 Varmint Special -- the old one with the stock that has pressed instead of cut checkering, and a heavy barrel -- I get the best accuracy with 41 gr. of IMR 4064 and the 70 gr. Sierra match bullet. In fact, I found this rifle to be persnickety about powder; it seems to like only IMR 4064 of all the powders I've tried in it.

My Rem 600 has always shot very well with H4831 (back when it was real surplus). I used 49.0 gr with an 85 gr Nosler Zipedo bullet and they shot into one hole at 100 yards. I didn't have a chrony at the time and didn't really care. It was a deer hunting rifle! What I really liked was 52.0 gr Norma N205.
