It's a dense ball powder so you can get a lot of it into a WSM. It produces maximum velocity with the 140 gr bullets in the 270 WSM and the accuracy is good.

The only downside is that it leaves a film on the case necks that even steel wool cannot remove. Because of this I am fooling with WXR, R22 and R25.

I got poor accuracy, and couldn't get within 3-4 grains (have to check my book for exact #) of a top end load without VERY heavy compression...powder well into the case neck. This in a 300WSM with 180 grain NBT's and SMK's loaded out looong. The rest of the can resides in the back of my cabinet. Others have better luck, especially in the 7mm and .270 bores. YMMV!

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

I use it in my .270 WSM as it seems to be the "magic" powder for that caliber . In my Savage 24" barrel, I use 70 gr of Magpro with a 140 gr Accubond. My accuracy is in the .2-.3 MOA range!!! The velocity with this load is 3150 fps, far from a max load (which by the way is 73-74 grains), but the accuracy is so outstanding that I just can't bring myself to NOT use this load. By the way, this was the very first load I tried in this gun, but can't see any sense in further experimentation.

I've played with Magpro a bit in the .270 WSM and .270 Win and results have been very promising. Magpro provides top velocity with 130-140 gr bullets in the WSM and good accuracy so far. Also, was able to reach just over 3200 fps using the book max load of Magpro in my .270 Win w/ 24" barrel w/ groups in the 1" range. Incidentally, the book max velocity is something like 3220 fps in the .270 Win.

Being a 270 WSM fan more than a 270 Win proponent I just want to point out that the max velocity with 130's in the old 270 is 3223 fps using AA data and the 270 WSM reaches 3275 fps pushing 140's with the same powder.

Magpro still makes my case necks dark with a film. Other powders work well too but the stick powders don't pack as well.

I was searching for a powder that would give better accuracy with 85 grain Barnes X in my 25-06. The Barnes load manual #3 doesn't list MagPro. Then I stumbled on 25-06 load data on the AA website. It gave highest velocity and best accuracy. I used it to harvest 6 springboks in Namibia last September.

I did take notice that it is priced higher than the usual Hodgdon or IMR powders. But not as high as VihtaVuori.

No doubt the WSM gets more velocity. I am able to reach Magpro's published WSM velocity with 2 grains less powder (also 24" barrel) using the same components in their loads. I haven't noticed the residue on case necks yet. Still 3200 fps with a 130 gr bullet out of the .270 standard (within published, pressure tested load data) is smoking along.
