I bought some new Lee Dies and the powder through expanding die hangs up when I try to extract the case and requires a LOT of force to remove it.

This is on the upstroke after expanding.

It's wearing me out....

Any ideas?

I may be the case mouth is getting expanded to where it gets squeezed back down as you withdraw the case. The expander portion of the die slides freely in the die. On the up stroke, the expander is pushed to the top of the die and stops while the case is pushed over it. On the down stroke, the expander follows the case down until it hits it's stop and the case is pulled off the expander. I'm guessing this is where yours hangs. You might try backing off the expander die as much as possible and see if it goes away. Also, the expander nose may have a rough finish and be holding on to the case too much. One sure cure is to get a Lyman M die.

Good Morning Courtney...

Yes... I've polished the mandrel that expands the case and the part that puts the flare on. I thought of the possibility of the flared portion getting "pinched" on the down stroke at the point of extraction and didn't act on it.

I'll tinker with it some and see if I can get any relief.

I may order an "M" die this week. I have never had a problem like this with Lee or any other die... It's sure frustrating... <sigh>

Thanks....

Is this with only one of the dies or all of them. I have several and have no trouble with them. If it is only one die sent it back Lee well send you a new one.

I own about 10 sets of Lee dies and this is only with one die in one set (41mag).

I'd rather just buy a new die and have it delivered than go through the whole process of going to the Post Office and mailing a die back for replacement.

I'll call Lee Monday and see if they'll offer any insight or advise but if they want me to send the die back I'll likely just buy an M die....

Apparantly it's not a caliber that Lyman does. The solution is simple. Sell the gun.
