I own two .308 rifles one a Browning A-Bolt, with the other an S&W Model B bolt action. Now in my Browning; I can receive good accuracy using 44.0 GRS/ IMR-4064/ 150 Gr. Hornady Spire Points. In my S&W Model B Rifle I receive just fair accuracy, but it accurately groups Winchester 150 Gr. Power Point (Factory Loads) the best. I was wondering if I use another powder like WW-748 in the S&W if this would improve the accuracy. Also have some IMR-4320 powder, but never used this in my .308's. <Thanks> David

The only way to know is to load some up and shoot them. That is some of the fun of reloading IMHO. muck

I've never used IMR 4320 in a 308 but have tried Win. 748. Thus far, I've settled on IMR 4064 for my 308 Win. loads since it shoots the best for me. You might get better accuracy with 165 or 168 gr. bullets.

Thanks for the advice, Grumulkin. I've always used IMR-4064 in my .308's, but read that WW-748 is a good choice also. I believe it has about the same burning rate as IMR-3031, if I am not mistaken. I'll have to look into those 165 grainers also, or maybe a different brand of 150's. David

Don't look past Varget or RL-15 if you can find some. IMR 4895 or Hodgdon BL-C(2) would be my choice if you went to 165 grainers. The .308 Win really does not have many powders that will not work well, thus making it both easy and difficult to load for. What the American public doesn't know is what makes them the American public.

You may not find one load that will give great accuracy in both rifles. You may need two different loads. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
