Looking for a rimmed 6.5 with less than 55,000psi. Read about wildcats but they're reinventing the 6.5x57R.

Thanks.

47,862 is P max for a 6.5x57R but I'm not sure what you are looking for.

https://www.riflemagazine.com/.../PDF/ri97partial.pdf

Found an interesting article in this old Rifle magazine. I have not read the whole article but I am sure you get some useful info.

The rimless 6.5X57 is a 48,000 CUP (NOT PSI!!!) load. So the rimmed version should be similar or less.

The article says the rimmed version is 41,300 PSI & there are some loads there.

If you are shooting it in a Double or a Drilling, regulation will be a bigger concern, as the rifle will be regulated for the approved pressure / velocity.

All the best.

I have this book

I want to build that action and a rifle from it. (I will have a gunsmith do the threading and chambering)

The author warns to keeps the pressure below 55,000psi. The rifle he built is in .225 Winchester, but I want a rimmed 6mm or 6.5mm that can reach out there a little farther. I've looked at all kinds of wildcats, but most of them duplicate the performance of existing European cartridges, and use brass of lesser quality than the European rounds.

I think the 6.5x57R is the answer.

The 4th edition of the German reloading manual "Wiederladen" has a pretty good section on the 6,5x57R that includes a few loads with IMR4350 and IMR4831, as well as a bunch more with VihtaVouri and Rottweil powders. It shows a CIP (as opposed to SAAMI) standard pressure of 3300 bar as opposed to the rimless version rated at 3900 bar.

As an example, the book shows a load of 45 grs of IMR4831 with the 129 Hornady bullet in an RWS 6,5x57R case to give 795 meters per second (about 2625 fps) at 'max' pressure.

Just for comparison, the 30-'06 is rated at 4050 bar, the 270 at 4300 bar, and the pair of 7x57s at 3900 bar for the rimless and 3400 for the rimmed.

Hope that helps some.

I've been shooting my K-95 in one for 2-3 years now on whitetail. Love the round. Usually shoot 4-10 deer a year with it. I shoot a 120TTSX at about 2900-2950.
