Dimples below shoulder ?'s

Hi, all. I have a 300 win mag. and have been loading it mid range (book calls for ~69-76 with reloader 22). I believe I have reloaded the brass about 6-8 times (including last night). Anyway, I have been noticing that the casing area just below the shoulder is starting to show signs of dimples. Not sure why. I keep my dies clean and do not use excessive lube. On this last batch I had to neck shave about 90% of the brass. I'm wondering if the brass is starting to wear thin. Funny thing is after I fire them the casing/shoulders are smooth with no more dimples. Anyone else run into this problem? I'm thinking its time to buy new brass. Thanks.

Dimpling usually happens when resizing and is a result of have excess lube on the case. Even though the case may not have a lot of lube on it, the die will accumulate lube and cause dimpling.

Especially so in the shoulder angel area of the die.

OK. Thanks. I did quite a few rounds yesterday so that seems like a reasonable explanation. I'll just have to make sure in the future that I periodically clean out the die. Thanks again.

Yeah, it's almost certainly too much lube. You gotta clean the die too, cause that's more likely where it's building up. When I see this I simply run a rag into the die and then go light with the lube for a while.

The 270 WSM's got a dent just below the shoulder with Redding dies. I got RCBS dies that have an air vents and the dents are gone.
