Redding Competition Seating Die

The Redding Catalogue specifies a different # die for 20 TAC and for 20 VarTarg. Since the dies appear to be based on bullet diameter - why different dies?
Could one be modified to fit the other?

The two cases are of a different design (length, shoulder angle, shoulder location, et cetera), hence the different name. Both are popular cartridges. There have to be die sets by multiple makers out there to buy...

Beryl, have you used a Redding Comp seater before?? I ask because I don't know if I'm going to state the obvious, if yes, please bear with me.

The Redding Comp Seater uses a (case body specific) sleeve to support the case while seating. The bullet seating stem may be bullet diameter specific (?), but the case sleeve is not.

I don't know the specifics of the cartridges you ask about (.20 Tactical = .223 necked down to .204, .20 VarTarg?), but maybe this is the explanation??

Btw, if you want to save a few $$$, you might also consider looking at the Forster seater. Technically it is a dead ringer for the Redding Comp seater, if not quite as well finished. Some people claim Redding copied the Forster design when the original patent ran out? Either die is excellent, albeit the Redding fairly pricey.

mho,
You have answered my question. I was not thinking about the fact the case sleve was specific to the catridge and therefore required a different die.

Yes, I do have a Redding Comp. seater die for my 22 PPC.

I like and have several Forster dies but they told me they do not make The Comp seater for the 20 Vartarg which is what I want. Thanks for your help.
