I am looking for reloading information for taking African Plains game. I have .338 Remington Ultra Mag Sendero with a Zeiss Diavari 6-24x56 Mil Dot ret. I have Hornady and Remington brass, Federal Mag 215 primers, looking to use IMR7828 powder and 225 gr bullet. Is 225gr enough? What type of bullet should I use?

I like all of your choices except for bullet weight. I'd go for a 250 grain bullet because I believe it's the best "all round" choice.

Secondly, I'd go for a Woodleigh or Barnes in said weight. No animal that this calibre is suited for taking will stand up to a premium 250 grain bullet launched from the 338RUM.

Lastly, I'd pick the 250 grain bullet that rifle shoots best.

You are fine w/ a good bonded 225gr bullet or Barnes @ 338RUM vel. A lesser bullet will not stand upto the high impact vel. Keep in mind, unless you are huting in Namibia or sim open range, you are not likely to be shooting beyond 300yds. So nothing wrong w/ 250gr bonded bulelts either.

The 338 RUM is a great round. I would like to suggest the Northfork bullet as well. They are constructed very well, have a bonded core with a unique copper cup design adn would really shine for what you are doing. And they are super accurate as well.

It's a little off topic, but I am curious about your scope choice. A 6-24X scope makes for a great long range target rig, but to carry on a hunting rifle? I have a Zeiss 6.5-20X50mm and I know how limited the field of view can be in a hunting situation, so I always switch it out for a 3-9X50mm (both are in quick detachable rings). If you still feel like you need more magnification, even a 4.5-14X50mm would fit your needs well, I'd think.

Just a thought. Good luck!

If you want to shoot the best .338 bullets, try the North Fork 240 grainer. The 225 grain is also a possibility with North Fork. You could also go with the Barnes TSX, Swift A-Frame, Nosler Partition. Shoot enough to know what your barrel prefers. Good shooting.

So far I have only shot 225gr Hornady Interbonds. I imagine you will not be using a 225 IB. Anyway, I have had great luck accuracy wise with Fed 215m and RL25. Shoots well under an inch 5 shot groups anywhere from 94gr to 96gr RL25.

Happy shooting and happy hunting. Just make sure to hold on tight!! The 338RUM will get your attention hammering
