Thanks to Grafs.com, I'm now the proud owner of 32 lbs of Winchester WXR powder. Supposedly it's Reloader 22 in a Winchester wrapping. The powder is "made in Sweden" and does look and taste like RL22. Does anyone here have some experience with this Winchester powder? I have several rifles that thrive on RL22 and I'm hopeful they won't notice a change in their diet. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

An Alliant Tech once told me that they are the "same" just different canisters. Start low and work up as usual. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

Yep, just like Norma MRP is Reloder 22 but with much better lot-to-lot consistency. rsy The real work of men was hunting meat. The invention of agriculture was a giant step in the wrong direction, leading to serfdom, cities, and empire. From a race of hunters, artists, warriors, and tamers of horses, we degraded ourselves to what we are now: clerks, functionaries, laborers, entertainers, processors of information. - Edward Abbey

What does a guy pay for 32lbs of it? Is it substantially cheaper? Windage and elevation, Mrs. Langdon, windage and elevation...

I could only find it in the closeouts in 1 lb containers at $13.59. So 8 lbs would be about $108. Do they have 8 lb jugs for cheaper? I can get Rel 22 for just a little more and no haz- mat.

Grafs had 8 pound cans of WXR for $99. They pay the Hazmat if you purchase 32 lbs (and no shipping charges). I just looked at the website and now Grafs.com is showing they just have 1 pound cans of WXR for $13.59 versus $18.39/lb for RL22. That's a good deal if you're willing to order at least 5 or 6 lbs to defray the $20 Hazmat charge. http://www.grafs.com/closeouts/product/17644 RSY, you're right about the lot-to-lot variations in RL22. It drives me crazy. Hopefully the new mound of powder will solve that issue for me for a long while. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

That may be true but if you keep using it instead of pepper in bloody mary's be prepared for some explosive results. Don't you guys over there have rules about how much propellant you can store? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

In the area I live in, I'm only allowed to store up to 5 lbs of powder and I believe a thousand primers. But unlike in some other countries I'm not monitored by the government as to what I buy. The liberals in the US government would love to limit or eliminate my right to have any powder or primers in my home, not to mention firearms. I am thankful that when I buy components or firearms(we have an instant backround check on firearms) today that I dont have jump through the hoops that some of you europeans do. I have in excess of 100 lbs of powder in my home and about 30,000 primers all stored saftley. Some of the powders are european and go through availibility cycles and as posted earlier in the thread, burn rates can very greatly from lot to lot of the same powder. So when I buy powder it is pretty much an 8lb jug minimum, but if I find a lot of something I really like, I may just order another 24 lbs. I should state that I dont just shoot for fun, I compete and I have already gone through about 30 lbs of powder this year.

Ahh, my little friend Winkie, you must come home soon. You have spent far too much time in old Europe. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

OK Forrest, I'll try to make it to the DSC convention. Total immersion is what I expect. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

FORREST in my experience its appears to be ballistically the same as MRP....at least in the 06 the velocity to pressure ratio is vertually identical, where as the R 22 is a little bit diffrent and you quite cant get the velocity out of R22 as you can with mrp/wxr for the same pressure daniel

Daniel, you may be dealing with minor lot-to-lot variations of the the same powder in different canisters with different labels. What do you think? AIU

I haven't used Norma MRP, but I have found that my lot of WXR is definitely about 0.5 to 1 grain faster burning than my lot of Re22. My chrono results in my 22/250AI show that. Win Cases, Rem 91/2 primer, Sierra 69 HPBT WXR 42.0 grains - 3,297 43.0 grains - 3,404 43.5 grains - 3,439 (Max) Re22 42.0 grains - 3,138 43.0 grains - 3,308 44.0 grains - 3,416 (Max) I experienced a similar result in my 25/06AI. Regards, Brian.

I've found lot-to-lot variances of 2%-3% in Reloder 22. It's the worst of any powder I've ever used. I have about 15 lbs of RL22 (3 different lots) that I'm going to mix with the 32 lbs of WXR (same lot). If it all works out as planned, I'll have 47 lbs of homogenous powder that will last for a few years. My "reduce by 5% and work up" days will be over. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon
