Hi
What kind of loading does winchester use in 3030 to acheive 2480 fps with 150 grain bullets. I like Sako they tell the consumers which kind of loading they use and it can help reloaders to duplicate factory loads. if you knw about this load then please tell me.

Danny,

I only have the 15th edition of the Winchester Reloading Manual which shows:
150 gr. W 748 34.5 gr. 2310 fps.
150 gr. W 760 35.9 gr. 2090 fps.
170 gr. W 748 32.0 gr. 2145 fps.
170 gr. W 760 33.6 gr. 1975 fps.

We have pulled bullets from Win factory ammo (.270) and it contained stick powder! If they are getting 2480 fps, it is probably not with Win powder. Howabout Reloder 15?

Dave:

When did you pull those .270 bullets? If it was recently, then the powder may be their new WXR (Winchester Extruded Rifle). Which, I believe, is the same as Reloder 22 (= Norma/Bofors).

Danny,
The factories are not limited to the cannister lots that are sold to the public.

There have been tails of Winchester using duplexed powders and things that us humans will never get our hands on. Makes no difference to me since I don't buy factory ammo. But it would be interesting to find out for sure. I cornered a factory rep several years ago and asked the very question - you would have thought that I had asked for the missing 18 minutes of the Nixon tapes.
