Faina, these were out of a K77 Blaser with a 60cm barrel and RWS 5341 primer:

SIERRA 100 gr
55.0gr MRP 3,285 fps
53.5gr R905 3,265 fps
54.0gr TUBAL8000 3,235 fps

SIERRA 85 gr
57.5gr MRP 3,530
56.0gr R905 3,485
57.ogr TUBAL8000 3,465

From DEVA's reloading manual:

HORNADY 100 gr Fed210M
54.0gr MRP 3,225 fps

SPEER 90 gr RWS 5341
51.8gr N204 3,315

If you do not have any of these powders available you may use 240 Weatherby starting loads, as they are similar in capacity and work up your loads carefully.

Gentlemen

I wonder why 6X62 and other fast calibers are so popular in south of Europe? What are you useing these cartridges for? Roe deer, or can you shoot Gems, Fallow deer and other game with them too?

Would be fun to know a bit more

Johan,

I can't say the 6x62 Freres is a popular cartridge at all, at least in my country.

They are very seldom seen.

I had one for a few years and used it on roe, for which I found it unnecassary powerful and fast.I ended up downloading an 85gr Nosler Solid Base to 3,200 fps.

I also used it, very succesfully, on gams. Slightly wind sensitive but it shot flatter than Kansas.
I took my very best gamsbock with it, a 116,75 CIC points one from the Carpathian mts. in Romania.

I also took some large red deers with it, but there are far more adequate cartridges for the job.A well placed 100gr Partition at almost 3,300 fps muzzle velocity did an impressive job on them.
Once, a 100gr Sierra failed miserably on a red deer. Hit on the ribs, on a slightly quartering away shot the bullet did not penetrate, sliding under the skin and stopping between the shoulder and the body. A second shot, now completely broadside, could fortunately been taken, finishing it off.

Gentlemen, I read these threads with inrerest, as I have a 6X61 barrel that I have not installed on an action (Mauser) as of yet. I have had several people tell me that it is grossly over bore. I believe my barrel to be a wildcat made from the 7X61 Sharpe and Hart. What brass is used to form the Freres?

Bubba a 6 x 62 Freres it's like a 243 Winchester ( same shoulder same neck ) but 11 mm ( nearly half an inch ) longer at the body , you can do the brass form 30'06 cases .

Daniel,

I thought the Frere uses his own size brass, so no one can form it from other cases?

Gentlemen,

6x62Freres case head is 12.10mm(min)-12.12mm(max)

30.06 case head is 11.96mm(min)-11.99mm(max)

One of the reasons I swapped my 6x62 Freres was that it was almost imposible to find any brass at that time.
I was advised against forming it from any other.

Regards,

montero

The 6x62 Freres is a "made to measure" Chamois ctg., i.e fast, flat & long range. Anything shot below 150 m will show impressive meat damage.

After I reread my post I realized my 6x61 is a belted cartridge. The Freres would not work any way. And the 7X61 S&H is also hard to come by. That is why my barrel is not on an action yet.

Hola Saeed and Montero , yes the 6 x 62 Frres uses his own case , it measures at P1 ( ahead of the rim groove ) 12.10 mm , the only other cartridges I know with the same measure it's the 9,3 x 62 instead of the 11.96 of the 30'06 ( I think 11.99 it's chamber measure not max case diameter )as many people convert 30'06 to 9,3 x 62 for me it's not a problem to do the same with the 6 x 62 F , and after the first fireform you resize the case to new specification , you don't need reduce the expanded case to 11.96 ('06 diam ) if not to 12.10 , you don't over work the case , by the way with more labor you can made 6 x 62 from 9,3x62 cases , same diameter .

Daniel is correct, the basic case is the 9.3x62. Of course, cases may be made from .30-06 brass, but I read anywhere one looses a little capacity this way. Im not sure about this.

Of course, because of liability and marketing reasons there is the warning about useing other brass.

IMHO the 6x62 is ideal for chamois. But its not allowed for this purpose in Germany, and the Austrian hunters prefer the 6.5x68, as it may also be used for Red stag, although not perfect for this. I think the legislation in Germany "killed" this round. And because of this we have 6.5x65(R). This is kinda 6.5-06 Improved.

Good shooting! Hermann

Hi Montero,
thank you for so many powder data for 6 x 62 Freres. Norma and Vihta powders are easy to find here, so I'll start to load with MRP and 100g Sierra bullets.
Thanks all
ciao
