That's the same thing that got me hooked on reloading years ago. That Whelen will probably shoot a lot of bullets better than that Nosler Partion. You might want to try some Hornady Interlocks or Speer Hot-Cor bullets. With Whelen velocity the Nosler partition seems like a bit of over kill.

Good luck with your new hobby.

I have realy only shot factory ammo when I have a new caliber gun and need some brass. Maybe havent got dies yet for that caliber.

I think the new to me rifle, is not very accurate shooting the factory ammo and the rifle or its barrel sucks. Ill start thinking im going to rebarrel it.

Then Im amazed when I go back out and shoot it with my reloads. Eeker , Damn ! this rifle shoots 1/2" groups.

When I was growing up a local older gentleman took me under his wing at the ripe age of 10 in 1963 and taught me the basics of reloading and I never looked back. It has been the one constant hobbie in my life that has saved money and improved the performamce of every centerfire I have owned. I started off having my son help me resize cases when he was only 4 years old. Now he is 17. Neither of us have ever shot a big game animals with a factory round in our life. Cheers!

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

somewhere between 57grs and max you will find a sweet spot for almost all bullets and rl-15 in the whelen. and yes you might feel the crunch of powder. some are compressed loads.

mine must be a fast barrel because it chronos at 2730fps with 225gr ballistic tips.

built it on a '03 action with a shillen barrel and topped it off with a weaver k6. it is perfection.

I'm running in the barrel on a new .223Rem and used factory loaded for the first 40 rounds. It's the first time in my 30 odd years of shooting of using factory stuff. No more, I did some more running in with handloads. Still more runing in to do but oh what a difference already.

I'm new at reloading as well. First ordered a Lee Hand Press to reload my 45-70 and 38-55's from H&R. Will never forget the thrill of developing a load for the 45-70 where all the holes of a three shot group were touching at 50 yards. Have been essentially "adopted" by an experienced reloader I met on one of these forums who has been a tremendous help to me. I'm now hooked and buying the full press, powder dispenser, and the whole nine yards to reload all of my guns.
