I just found some affordable bullets for .375H&H and I need to work up some loads. Does anybody have experience with this bullet? Ill be using it for practise on the range.

cewe I have used that bullet in my 375 H&H for deer hunting with a reduced loads of 60gr and 64gr. of IMR 3031, vel @2400fps to 2500fps. Full power loads start at 71gr. of 3031 vel @2700fps, to a Max load of 75gr[compressed] of 3031 vel @2900fps. I have also used the Hornady 220gr Flat point with 60 and 64 gr of IMR 3031. 64gr crono'd 2618 in one of my 375 H&H's. Both bullets have done excellent on deer. I used 3031 simply because I had plenty of it on hand. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the data, Ill have to work out how the IMR translates to Vihtavuori powder but thats quite easy. What kind of accuracy did you get with this bullet compared to say Hornaday 270 or 300gr SPs?

I have a japanese Mark V Weatherby Weathermark rifle. A load of 76.0 gr or RL-15 in Remington cases with CCI 250 primers yields 2863 fps with a +-7 fps SD. Best group has been 0.28" at 100 yards. GREAT load, but a little fast for use on game!

quote:I've found the same bullet with 62.0 gr. of IMR 3031 to be a .5 MOA load in mine and look forward to using it on a whitetail this fall. For a slower load I've used XMP-5744 (a Czech powder so it might be available to you in Finland?) or SR-4759 with the 220-gr. flat points, and see no reason they wouldn't work with the Speer 235. XMP-5744 had a very slight accuracy edge. Both went around 2200 fps. John

cewe I must say that accuracy has been a little better with the heavier bullets... However I have not tried to load the heavy bullets down. Many cartridges shoot best with near full power loads. The light bullet reduced loads shoot plenty good enough for deer and pig hunting to at least 200 yards, which is as far as I have tested them. I was not worried about "varmint" accuracy, I just wanted a load with minimal recoil and power for deer hunting and plinking so I did not try several different powders or charge weight. I have also loaded the 250 Sierra spzbt with the same charges of 3031 and it shot good also. I have not taken game with it. For a very, very light load 26 to 30grains of SR 4759 should give a velocity of around 1500 to 1700fps. depending on the bullet. I have not tried this load, but have used SR4759 in the 308 for reduced 110gr. loads with good accuracy. [ 05-30-2003, 01:22: Message edited by: N E 450 No2 ]

Two practice loads I use are: 265 grain gas checked bullet with 20 grains of Herco. Great fun load. 235 grain jacketed bullet with 70 grains of 4895. This is also my deer hunting load when I'm out for some fun.

I use V-V N150 with the 235 gr Speer, 78 grains of N150 gives ca. 2850 fps, but for practice its probably better to go down a few grains. Vihtavouri has load data on their site for N140 and N160. Tron

Thanks guys, Ill be busy for awhile. As long as were discussing the .375 has anyone reloaded ammo for use in African conditions? I was on my first safari this spring and as I didnt know how heat would effect pressure so I stuck to factory ammo (Norma TXP 300gr -a bit on the tough side for plains game but they worked). Im planning my next trip for next year and would like to use a Woodleigh bullet. Cheers
